Lingwood Primary Academy Newsletter 23rd May 2025
Dear parents and carers,
This term seems to have gone by in a flash. There have been many highlights but what stands out most for me is how children talk about being part of Team Lingwood and wanting to the very best version of themselves.
The year ones had a lovely trip to the SeaLife Centre on Thursday and were absolutely buzzing when they returned. It was great to hear how well they represented the school.
This week our attendance is a disappointing 90.6% but our attendance for the whole year still remains above the national average but we are never looking for average at Lingwood!
I can report back that the staff quiz team more than held their own but were unlucky not to win! Thanks to FOLPA for organising this and for all their hard work and support.
After the half-term break, we will be able to share information about transition days and who your child's teacher is. Have a great half-term and see you all on Monday 2nd June.
Mr Jeffery

Year Group News
Nursery
In Bishy’s this week our Foundational Knowledge focus has been around people and communities, learning about different occupations. We have concentrated on doctors and how they help us, while enjoying the book ‘I Want to be a Doctor’. We practised using words linked to doctors both in our small world area and the role play corner, using pretend thermometers and stethoscopes. Outside, children have been developing their gross motor skills when using our range of bikes, while also pretending to be ambulance drivers!
Reception
This week, Reception have been reading the book ‘Mrs Noah’s Garden’ and continuing their learning about plants - naming them, labelling them and growing them. In maths, they have been looking at shapes and have enjoyed making patterns and exploring how to combine 2D shapes to make new ones.
Year 1
This week, Year 1 have had a really busy week! We have been learning about Mae Jemison in History, the equator in Geography and about being positive and kind to others in PSHE. We topped off the week with a really exciting visit to the Sea Life Centre in Great Yarmouth. The children were well behaved and represented our school beautifully! We loved finding out about sea creatures from our guide, Harry.
Year 2
This week, Year 2 have been learning how to tell the time. The children have enjoyed using this knowledge to know when it is lunch time and home time! We have also been learning about what a plant needs to survive and the history of Norwich.
Year 3
This week, Year 3 have been learning about how shadows are formed. We have enjoyed some outdoor lessons exploring our shadows. In writing we have enjoyed planning and writing out formal letters of complaint. In Maths we have been learning about shapes and have been working hard to draw polygons accurately.
Year 4
This week, Year 4 have shown pure determination with their summer term PIXL tests, I have been extremely proud of them and their achievements. With their MTC at the beginning of next term we have celebrated times table achievements and heat maps turning green; meaning they can recall facts in under 4 seconds! In history, we finished our Ancient Egypt unit by learning about the boy king Tutankhamun. The children continued to build their water confidence today by diving underwater to collect sinkers.
Year 5
This week, we have been writing our myths and legends narrative and the children have produced great work, well done! They have considered using fronted adverbials and dialogue to move the story on. In maths, we have been interpreting line graphs and tables. During history, we have focused on what the Mayans invented, which the children were fascinated by!
Year 6
Year 6 have had a really good end of term, finishing their work on Shakespeare’s sonnets in English and analysing some of them. In mathematics they have been learning about translating shape and coordinates. In science, they have continued their studies on classifying living things.

Y1 Trip to the SeaLife Centre
Y1 had an amazing time on Thursday visiting Great Yarmouth Sea Life Centre. Miss Long reported back that they all represented the school in a respectful and positive way.
They loved exploring and seeing all of the sea creatures; linking their learning from the classroom.
Well done Year 1! We are really proud of you.

FOLPA SUMMER FETE
Friday 11th June
A big thank you to the FOLPA team who are working behind the scenes. Next half term, we have our annual summer fete. Whilst the children enjoyed their non-uniform day last Friday we gratefully received some contributions towards the summer fete.
Next half term, we will have another non-uniform in the hope of some more donations. Any toys or bottles of wine for the tombola would be amazing! This will happen on Thursday 26th June.
We are looking forward to the event!
