Lingwood Primary Academy Newsletter 5th September
Dear parents and carers,
Welcome back. I trust you have all had a lovely summer break with your children. We have had such a good first week of term. The children have settled into their new classes superbly and are well and truly back into the routines of school life.
Most children are looking really smart, and this is something that we focused on last year. There is always spare uniform at the front of the school if you need something.
When your child has PE/Swimming please make sure they come into school in their PE uniform. This includes a yellow top. If your child has earrings, they should be able to remove them for PE lessons. If this is not possible, please provide them with tape to put over them.
Hopefully, you will have read last term that there have been a few changes with how we communicate with parents. I am hoping you have all now signed up to Arbor and completed your up to date permissions under consents.
Please make sure year 5/6 parents have gone on to the same section if you would like your child to walk home from school.
If you are having any problems with Arbor, Mrs Tubby will be happy to support. We do not use Arbor for ordering school lunches. This will continue to be on Aspens.
We have a new school website ready to go live. I know the old one has out of date information on it but this should be sorted out very soon.
Have a lovely weekend.
Mr Jeffery

Year Group News
Nursery
It has been a great start to the term in Nursery. All the children have settled back into their routine and have been enjoying seeing their friends. This week we have been reading the book ‘Nursery? Not Today!’ and thinking about all the things we enjoy doing at school. The children have also been looking at our visual timetable and learning what comes first then next during our school day.
Reception Rabbits
Rabbits have had a lovely start to their very first term at ‘big school’! We have been so impressed with how well the children have settled into the new routines and expectations. This half term will be spent focusing on building relationships, sharing stories on being kind and thinking about what makes us special. In Sounds Write we have been using our first group of letter sounds to build and read words such as mat, sat, and sit. In maths we have been learning all about zero and one, recognising the numerals and how to identify then count out the amounts.
Hares
What a brilliant first week Hares Class have had! We have started to read a new story, ‘Family and Me!’ which we have then written sentences about. In our Maths we have been exploring how to represent numbers. Ms Freezer is really impressed with how we have settled into the year and cannot wait for the rest of the term!
Fawns
Fawns have had a brilliant start to year! We have been learning about sentence structure, and the children have shown a great understanding of the different uses of capital letters and a range of punctuation marks. In History we have started our unit on ‘The History of Flight’ and we have all enjoyed learning about early forms of flight.
Otters
Otters have had a fantastic start to the new school year! We have been learning about the structure of Haiku poems in our writing lessons and have written some very descriptive ones using the varying weather we have experienced this week as our inspiration.
Badgers
Wow Badgers! What a great first week back! They have enjoyed their first few lessons in geography, PE and music, as well as their new core text: Shackleton’s Journey. They are really looking forward to writing a letter of application in writing and recalling their understanding of place value in maths.
Foxes
Foxes have had a great start to the school year. They have settled in really well and shown the Lingwood values. We are working on place value in mathematics, beginning to write an autobiography in English and have started to study WW2 in history.
