Lingwood Primary Academy Newsletter 4th July 2025
Dear parents and carers,
What an absolute scorcher! The children have coped well in the heat and did really well in their new classes. I am so glad we have had two full days in their new classes - it was time well spent and there was a lovely buzz in each classroom.
It is understandable that some children are anxious about being in a new class, especially one with younger and older children. I also understand that this can be a worrying time for parents. As I explained at the meeting last week, we are spending all our meeting time planning to make sure this is a success.
Your feedback is valuable to us. A lot of the discussions I have had with parents have been about lunchtimes and children who are not in the same class as some of their friends. We have decided that children will be eat in the hall with their year group rather than their class and when they have their time in the MUGA this will also be in year groups.
In September there will be a chance to meet your child’s new teacher and then we will have a proper parents evening before October half-term.
A reminder that it is our summer fete next Friday. I have committed to spending some time in the stocks!
I am delighted to announce that from September Mrs Smith will be our new SENCO at Lingwood. For the remainder of this term please continue to contact me with any questions regarding SEND.
Have a lovely weekend.
Mr Jeffery

Transition News
Reception
Reception had a very successful two days with Mrs Brighton and Miss Yeomans. They enjoyed exploring the classroom and outdoor provision. In class they all enjoyed being creative colouring their photo frames ready for next year. All of the children listened on the carpet during story time. There were lots of smiles and laughter and we look forward to welcoming them back in September.
Hares Class - Ms Freezer
What a fantastic first two days we had together in Hares Class! We started by reading the book, ‘All Are Welcome’ and realised we felt the same about our new class and school too. Ms Freezer was impressed with our writing, counting and sorting. In the afternoons we enjoyed creating art together which will be displayed in September – it's going to look beautiful! I hope you all have a safe and fun summer together and am very much looking forward to the beginning the new year with you all back at Lingwood!
Fawns Class - Mrs Smith
Fawns class had a brilliant first two days this week. We read the book 'A good place' and discussed the characters and their needs in the story. We also enjoyed playing I-Spy with one of the illustrations in the book. In Maths we looked at 2- and 3-digit numbers and practiced different methods of grouping them to count. In writing we looked at errors in writing and how we would edit and correct them to uplevel our work. The children (and adults) loved playing new games such as 'Mirror, Mirror' and 'Tomato Ketchup'.
Otters Class - Mrs Tibble
Otter class had a great 2 transition days this week! We enjoyed some shade whilst getting to know each other and we cheered one another on during some team building activities. We also created some amazing artwork around the theme of belonging that we can display in the entrance to our classroom! We trialled out some maths lessons so we know what they will be like in September, and we practised our handwriting... our ambition is to have the neatest work in the whole school!.
Badger Class - Ms Mills
Year 4 have worked exceptionally hard this week finishing off and editing their poetry critical analysis and completing their maths unit on position and direction. They have now begun their new writing topic on report writing and following their presentations on the water cycle in Geography, I think we will again have some brilliant outcomes!
All the children gave it their all on Sports Day, I was proud of every single one of them. Well done Otters!
Foxes Class - Mr Dibden
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting all of Badger Class on Monday and Tuesday! We did some fantastic English and maths work and learned a little about Herekles and Cerberus. In the afternoons, we did team building, some 'All About Me' artwork and created our very own badgers, which will be displayed in the corridor in September.
Year 6
Year six went to Acle this week for two transition days. They learnt more about the school, the routines and their future classmates. On the days, they studied a range of lessons and even saw a play. I am sure they are all looking forward to high school!

Remember that every day counts and we are in every day next week!
Lingwood Book Returns
As we come to the end of the school year. Please have a check at home and return any school reading books you may have. Every year, the school loses a lot of money and resources to books that are not returned.
We will be collecting all school books, including library and phonics scheme books in by Monday 14th July for auditing over the summer break. It is really important for your child to keep up reading over the summer. A letter has been sent this week about the summer reading challenge being run by Norfolk Libraries. This can be accessed free both in libraries and online and is a fun way to access books, e-books and audiobooks.
