Lingwood Primary Academy Newsletter 26th June 2025

ashley.coley • June 26, 2025

Dear parents and carers,

It has been quite a week. It was such a lovely day on Tuesday watching the children work together in their houses during a wonderful sportsday. I was blown away by how the children behaved and competed against each other showing our school values of kindness, ambition and determination. The parents were equally impressive with their fantastic support and the parent races were certainly a highlight!

It was positive to see a good turnout on Monday evening for our meeting about mixed aged teaching. For those that did not attend I will send my PowerPoint upon request. We are looking forward to our two transition days on Monday and Tuesday. Please see more information below.

I am delighted to tell you that when Miss Coley is away on maternity leave in October Mr Dibden will become the interim deputy head. He will continue to be the class teacher for Foxes. I hope to announce who our new SENCO is next week.

Have a lovely weekend.

Mr Jeffery

Year Group News

Nursery

In Bishy’s class this week our Foundational Knowledge focus has been around using our imaginations! We have been following children’s interests to engage in imaginative play based on their own ideas, and making more complex small worlds with blocks and construction kits. We have linked this to the book about a fish with a big imagination, ‘Tiddler’, while also talking about why it’s important to tell the truth and learning some new facts about sea creatures in the story. The class also loved taking part in Sports Day, trying their best and cheering each other on!

Reception

This week in Reception we have been reading The Rapping Princess’. The children have really enjoyed listening to some rap by the artist Karl Nova and discussing what rap is. In maths they have been talking about positional language including next to, besides, under, on top, behind and in front. We had a great time on our school trip to the zoo, The children particularly enjoyed the noisy monkeys!

Year 1

Year 1 have begun our new reading unit on The Hare and the Tortoise, thinking about sequencing events and the morals of this story and others.  In Maths we have been learning about money, looking at coins and making simple amounts.  In History we compared the four astronauts we have been learning about across the term - Neil Armstrong, Mae Jemison, Bernard Harris Jr. and Tim Peake.  We also enjoyed watching videos of Tim Peake onboard the International Space Station.

Year 2

Year 2 have worked hard this week, finishing writing their recounts from personal experience in our English lessons. We focused on writing events in chronological order, using expanded noun phrases to describe what we did. In maths we finished our unit on position and direction. All the children demonstrated great determination during Sports Day.

Year 3
Year 3 have started our unit on Poetry in writing this week. We have been exploring how authors convey different emotions through vocabulary and sentence structure. In maths we have finished our unit on time. All pupils have shown real perseverance with this unit and should be proud with the progress they have made. We also saw some exceptional determination at our Sports Day this year, it was lovely to see all the pupils working as a team and supporting each other through the races. Well done Year 3.

Year 4

Year 4 have worked exceptionally hard this week finishing off and editing their poetry critical analysis and completing their maths unit on position and direction. They have now begun their new writing topic on report writing and following their presentations on the water cycle in Geography, I think we will again have some brilliant outcomes!

All the children gave it their all on Sports Day, I was proud of every single one of them. Well done Otters!

Year 5

Year 5 have had a great week. They demonstrated great resilience at Sports Day, showing the values of kindness, ambition and determination. Year 5 went paddleboarding for their school trip and supported their peers in the water. They loved getting wet! Well done Badgers!

Year 6

Year 6 had a great time this week for Sports Day. The class competed with determination and although the races were competitive, they participated fairly. In science, they started a new unit on evolution and inheritance, revisiting fossils and how they form. In computing, they continued their work on spreadsheets, planning an event using different formulas.

Dear parents and carers, I wanted to say a massive thank you to the parents who have come and spoken to me face to face about the changes we are having to make in September. In some schools the easy thing to do is to take to social media and wind each other up. I will try and make myself available in the playground as much as possible for the rest of the term, so please do come and speak to me. I have had several emails asking, ‘Which class is my child is in?’ I understand you want to know, but we will be sending this information out to every parent at the same time next Wednesday. I want the meeting on Monday to be about how all children will have a successful year in mixed classes, rather than focusing on individuals. We have sorted out the classes but want to triple check them on Monday morning. Thank you for your understanding over this. I know some parents have had a few worries over the senco situation. I wrote to you a couple of weeks ago to explain that Ms Clack was now working primarily at Heartsease. We now have an internal advert out for our new senco and hope to be announce who this is in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, if you have any SEND related questions, please speak to the class teacher or contact me through Mrs Tubby at the front office ( office@lingwoodprimaryacademy.org.uk ). A reminder that Sports Day starts at 9.30am for Key Stage 2, but parent are welcome to come from 9am. Key Stage 1 will start at 1:15pm. Please bring a chair with you. I thought I would share this email I received on Wednesday: Good evening, I just wanted to send a quick email praising the pupils who I saw in the village this morning completing their cycling safety sessions. They were really respectful and polite moving to make sure I could get along the path with my pushchair. I am looking forward to seeing you on Monday evening and for what looks like a very warm Sports Day on Tuesday. Have a nice weekend in the sun. Mr Jeffery

Unity Schools Partnership is delighted to announce that we have received some grant funding from the Anguish’s Educational Foundation to support our school. The Trust, of which we are a member school, applied for funding under its charitable foundation to start a Happy Top Up Shed for our families. The project will provide food, warm clothing and bedding, relief from period poverty and energy support. Our knowledge of our families, and the trust between our pupils and families and the school, allows us to provide effective immediate support to help against the ongoing cost of living crisis. Children who have their most immediate needs met will attend school more frequently, engage more and achieve better outcomes. Children who feel the school cares will experiment, commit and be more resilient. Unity Schools Partnership and our wider school community would like to thank Anguish’s Educational Foundation for their support.

Dear parents and carers, It was lovely to see so many parents coming along to our FOLPA picnic today in th every warm sunshine. Our next big event is Sports day on Tuesday 24th June. I will send more information next week, but we hope you can come along and support. Years 3 – 6 will be in the morning and Nursery – year 2 will be in the afternoon. Please make sure you have seen the letter sent out on BromCom about some important changes for September. Have a lovely weekend. Mr Jeffery

Dear parents and carers, It was great to see Lingwood in the newspaper over half-term. Please see the link below. Lingwood Primary Academy win Acle Cluster Competition | Norwich Evening News Yesterday I received a certificate celebrating the fact that Lingwood was in the top 25% of primary schools in the country for our attendance last term. This is recognition for everyone at the school. Well done and thank you. Please see the letter I have sent out today about the actions we are taking having read all of the responses from the surveys that were sent out last month. Next week I will update you about staffing for September. Mrs Clack is now only working at Heartsease because of a leadership change there. Fortunately, we have got the expertise of Sarah Porter supporting all this SEND for the remainder of the summer term. Have a lovely weekend. Mr Jeffery

Dear parents and carers, This term seems to have gone by in a flash. There have been many highlights but what stands out most for me is how children talk about being part of Team Lingwood and wanting to the very best version of themselves. The year ones had a lovely trip to the SeaLife Centre on Thursday and were absolutely buzzing when they returned. It was great to hear how well they represented the school. This week our attendance is a disappointing 90.6% but our attendance for the whole year still remains above the national average but we are never looking for average at Lingwood! I can report back that the staff quiz team more than held their own but were unlucky not to win! Thanks to FOLPA for organising this and for all their hard work and support. After the half-term break, we will be able to share information about transition days and who your child's teacher is. Have a great half-term and see you all on Monday 2nd June. Mr Jeffery

Dear parents and carers, What a lovely week of weather! I have been really impressed how children have stayed smart with shirts tucked in despite the heat. Well done to year 6 - they coped superbly with their SATs and had a well-deserved reward yesterday. One of the many highlights of my week was hearing from a parent who told me that her children go home and tell them that Mr Jeffery says in assembly that we want to be the best school in the world. Firstly, I am glad children listen to my assemblies, and more importantly, it is great to see and hear children with such great ambition. Mrs Clack is having to spend her Tuesdays at Heartsease for the upcoming weeks. Fortunately, we have the very experienced Mrs Porter supporting the school and carrying out the SENCO role. Her email is sporter@unitysp.co.uk. This week our attendance is once again impressive and stands at 97.4%. Well done to Year 6 for a stomping 100%. Good luck to the staff team (and parent teams!) at the quiz tonight and have a lovely weekend. A reminder that half-term is the week after next (w/c 26th May) with children returning on Monday 2nd June. Mr Jeffery

Headteacher's Update Dear parents and carers, First of all, reminder about the parent survey. Thank you to those that have taken time to do this. Please click on this QR code below if you have not yet filled it in. This week our attendance is whopping 98%. This is brilliant. Thank you for your support in making sure attendance is a priority at Lingwood. Year 4 won the attendance cup and Eric the Penguin this week with 99%. Next week is SATS week. We wish year six the very best of the luck. This is an important week for the school, and we know the children will do their best. Whatever happens SATS do not define you as a person and we are very proud of everyone in the class for how hard they have worked this year. You will no doubt be aware that Ms Mera is well and truly pregnant. She will be going on maternity leave on 6th June. We wish her all the very best. I am pleased to let you know that Mrs Luck will be teaching the class on Mondays and Tuesdays and Miss Black will lead the class for the remainder of the week. A reminder that we have a non-uniform day on Friday 16th May. Children should bring £1 for the Fete or a prize for the tombola. The Sumer Fete is on Friday 11th July and don’t forget the FOLPA quiz night on Friday 16th May. Rumour has it the staff team think they can win. Have a lovely weekend Mr Jeffery Interim Headteacher Lingwood Primary Academy

Headteacher's Update Dear parents and carers, As mentioned in my last newsletter, we would like you fill out a survey to hear your views about our school. The more people that fill in the survey the better the understanding we have of what is going well, and more importantly, what we can do better. The survey is anonymous. Children and staff will also be completing similar surveys this week. Please click on this QR code lower down. A huge thank you to Sarah Seyrus for making our School promotional video. Please have a look and share. https://1drv.ms/v/c/9f0dbb8d453b4c30/Ee2IQglg739LhBQGhy51XIIBDdjvcVyZDkIj0pC2aYHUSw With weather getting hotter, please ensure that your child is wearing suncreen to school, brings a hat and water bottle. If your child needs to reapply sunscreen they will need to have a nut-free labelled bottle which needs to be given to the class teacher. After a little blip last week our attendance is once again good at nearly 97%. Well done to year 3 who won the attendance cup and Eric the Penguin with 99.6%. Have a lovely Bank Holiday Weekend and see you on Tuesday morning. Regards, Mr Jeffery Interim Headteacher Lingwood Primary Academy

Headteacher's Update Dear parents and carers, I hope you all had a wonderful Easter break. The children have come back to school in good spirits and have settled back into the ‘Lingwood Way’. Last term I wrote to you about uniform expectations at Lingwood and it has been useful to hear some feedback from parents. Further to what I wrote in my last newsletter, please note that black or dark grey pinafore dresses can be worn and that plain hoodies are ok for outdoor PE. I hope that clears a few things up. All Unity Schools are sending surveys to parents, staff and pupils this week. This type of feedback is really useful, and I would be grateful if you could spend a few minutes filling this survey in. As always, if there are any big issues please do not hesitate to contact the school so we can work things through. Our weekly attendance has dropped a bit to 94.4%. The simple fact is that the higher the attendance for your child the more learning they can do. Often our absences are because of unauthorised holidays. I understand the frustrations around expensive holidays, but your child is missing crucial learning if they are going away in term and it is highly unlikely I will authorise the absence. Well done to year 6 who managed 100%attendance for the week. Year 6 have SATS on the w/c 12th May and it is crucial they are in every day. Have a good weekend and enjoy the mini heatwave which is set to come. Regards, Mr Jeffery Interim Headteacher Lingwood Primary Academy

Headteacher's Update Dear parents and carers, What a lovely way to end the term with. The children had a great service at the church. They sang beautifully, walked sensibly to and from the church, and the readers did a great job. We were also fortunate to hear the bands from Rock Steady in the afternoon. It is important to be able to offer opportunities like this to our children and we will be sending some information out after Easter about the chance to learn an instrument. Next term, we are having a big push on school uniform. School uniform helps us have a sense of identity and belonging and I am a firm believer in taking pride in your appearance in school (even when I am dressed as a penguin). Once standards start to slip with uniform, it is a battle to get them back up. Also, by allowing one child to wear a hoodie, for example, opens this up for every other child to ask why they can’t do the same. Our big push for the first few weeks of term will be shoes, the correct PE kits (not hoodies) and proper school shorts and trousers. On our website it says children must have proper school shoes, but after speaking to children, parents and staff, I have decided to allow plain black trainers. For more information, please see the link below and if you are unsure or if you have any questions please contact your class teacher of Mrs Tubby. Uniform at Lingwood Primary I hope you and your families have a brilliant Easter break. A reminder the first day of term is Tuesday 22nd April. Regards, Mr Jeffery Interim Headteacher Lingwood Primary Academy
