Lingwood Primary Academy Newsletter 26th September
Dear parents and carers,
This is my final newsletter that I will be writing to you as the headteacher at Lingwood. I wanted to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you for the amazing support and experience I have had. In December, I had never even heard of Lingwood and now it is a place that I will never forget. I promise to return to take on the park run when I am fully fit.
On Wednesday, I spent the day with Jane Sendall who will be the new interim headteacher. This was an invaluable day and means there will be a smooth handover next week. Mrs Sendall was so impressed with how the children were both in and out of lessons and was blown away by their manners. It is clear that children at Lingwood are kind, ambitious and determined.
It has been another solid week for attendance.
Next Thursday (2nd October) is census day. You should have received an email from Mrs Tubby about anyone entitled to a free school meal receiving one on this day. If you haven’t received this email or have any questions, please speak to Mrs Tubby.
We have seen an increasing amount of toys and fidget toys being brought into school. Please do not send your child in with any type of toys unless it has been agreed by the Mrs Smith (SENCO) and class teacher. There are few children who the school supply fidget toys to because the senco has decided it will help them concentrate. Increasingly children are bringing them in for no reason and not using them for the correct reasons.
Thank you once again for making me feel so welcome at Lingwood. I have a few days in the next couple of months where I will be popping back so, please do say hello.
Have a lovely weekend
Mr Jeffery

Year Group News
Nursery
This week, Nursery have continued reading ‘Who Are You?’. We have been talking about the different places we have visited in the local area and thinking about how some places are the same and some are different from where we live. In maths, we have been learning about patterns and the children have enjoyed making their own repeating patterns with stamps and paint. In phonics we have been guessing the sound and using instruments to make patterns.
Reception Rabbits
This week in Rabbits class we have been thinking about the different seasons, practising the names of the seasons and talking about what the weather can be like in each one. We have been exploring what autumn looks like when outside, which has included lots of discovery linked to conkers! In maths we have been looking at numbers 4 and 5, while in phonics we are now including the letter sounds n, o and p to read, write and spell words.
Hares
This week we have enjoyed our first Computing lesson. We learnt how to use the iPads to take a photo of a subject ensuring they were in the centre of the frame, they were in focus and that they had suitable lighting. Ms Freezer was really impressed and thinks some of us will become professional photographers in the future! We also used the iPad to play a new game, ‘Hit the Button’ (Topmarks website) where we had a time limit to make as many number bonds to ten as we could. This would be a great way to consolidate our number knowledge at home.
Fawns
This week in science we have enjoyed learning about different animal habitats. In Reading we have started studying our new text: A Planet full of plastic and have been learning about biodegradable objects. In maths all pupils have worked hard and completed their maths fluency checks, they have enjoyed taking part in ‘Unity Maths Festival’ learning about money.
Otters
Otters have been classifying plants this week learning about how they reproduce and the difference between flowering and non-flowering plant. We have also completed our persuasive piece of writing. In maths, we have been rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 and enjoyed the maths festival on Tuesday learning about why money matters.
Badgers
Badgers have been enjoying creating abstract art by artist Hundertwasser, using analogous and complementary colours. They have started a new topic in English, all about Odysseus and the Cyclops and the class have been extending their knowledge of how to successfully punctuate speech. They really enjoyed their ‘Money Matters’ day on Tuesday and enjoyed learning about budgeting!
Foxes
Fox class have created a self-portrait in art and looked at proportion to get the features correctly sized. In maths they began their new unit on addition and subtraction. In science, the class learnt all about electrical symbols. On Friday, the Year 6 children went to Acle Academy for a transition day.
