Lingwood Primary Academy Newsletter 19th September
Dear parents and carers,
I am pleased to inform that my surgery went well and that I will be back in school from next Tuesday. On Wednesday, Mrs Sendall will be visiting the school which she is very much looking forward to.
Miss Coley informs me that Lingwood have had another fantastic, yet busy week. KS1 and KS2 premier sports, Cookery and Mrs Sellen’s sign language club were all fully attended and enjoyed by all attendees. School and Eco Council met this week with Ms Mills to discuss Autumn Term ideas. Next week, Mrs Brighton will launch her running club which we are really excited about.
This week, we also had our Rotary volunteers to listen to our children read and our first KS1 reading morning. Our ‘Meet the Teacher’ drop-in sessions and the ‘Food Festival’ were also very well attended thank you to those who stopped by. I hear the watermelon and pizza were firm favourites.
We have been pleased with our attendance at the start of term. Our school attendance is currently at 97.2%, well done to Badgers who just swiped the attendance award this week!
Next week, we have an opportunity for our parents who have children with SEND needs to attend their learning support plan meetings. Please speak to your child’s class teacher if you have not booked a time slot.

Year Group News
Nursery
This week in Nursery, we have been reading the book ‘Who are You?’ We have been thinking about who is in our family and the similarities and differences between us. The children have enjoyed creating self-portraits and looking at themselves in the mirror. In maths we have been using blocks and natural materials to explore shapes, thinking about how we can manipulate them when we are building or creating.
Reception Rabbits
This week our focus has been thinking about what makes us special, how we are the same and how we are different, talking about what skills we have. In maths we have continued looking at the numbers 0 to 3, practising ‘one more than’. And in phonics we are using the letter sounds m, a, t, s and i to read, write and spell words.
Hares
This week we have started our History topic where we looked at our local community and the shops and services we have here. Later in the term we would like to invite somebody in who remembers what it was like in Lingwood 50 years ago, so please let Ms Freezer know if you have a family member or friend who would like to volunteer. Well done on another fantastic week Hares Class!
Fawns
This week in fawns we have been exploring fact families and learning about how we can use practical resources to help us when adding 3 or more numbers. In writing we have been learning about how we can extend our sentences using adjectives and coordinating conjunctions and have started to plan the main characters for our stories. In history we are learning about the history or flight and have enjoyed learning about the significance of the first ever plane to flight.
Otters
Otters have been busy planning their own persuasive adverts. In science, they have been learning about invertebrates and have been on a bug hunt to try and find different invertebrates in our school environment too!
Badgers
Badgers had a fascinating computing lesson this week involving augmented reality! They created some truly incredible scenes on the Maker app and they had great fun adding in effects. They have now finished their letters to apply for Shackleton’s crew and they have clearly put a lot of effort in! Well done Badgers!
Foxes
This week the Foxes finished their autobiography and edited it. In maths they learnt rounding and negative numbers. In science with Mrs Luck they studied static electricity. They also had a very enjoyable art lesson where they drew still life with oil pastels.
