Lingwood School believes that pupils behave better, feel part of a team and hold higher aspirations of themselves and others when they wear school uniform. Uniform fosters a sense of belonging and we want our pupils to feel proud of their uniform and their school.
It is our policy that all of our pupils wear uniform when attending school, school organised trips and events.
The Academy’s Local Advisory Board will respect variations to uniform if they are directly related to established religious or cultural traditions. Any variation will be dealt with on an individual basis and at the discretion of the schools’ Headteacher or Local Advisory Board.
Uniform
In order to maintain a strong sense of identity and belonging within our school, we require pupils to wear the following uniform:
Nursery to Year 1
From the school’s uniform supplier:
- Gold polo shirt
- Emerald green V neck sweatshirt / cardigan embroidered with the school’s logo
From parents’ chosen source:
- Black trousers, black pinafore or black skirt – no black denim, joggers or leggings
- Black shoes/trainers – plain or with discreet logos
- Plain white or dark coloured socks or tights
Year 2 to Year 6
From the school’s uniform supplier:
- Emerald green tie with gold stripe
- Emerald V neck sweatshirt / cardigan embroidered with the school’s logo
From parents’ chosen source:
- White shirt with collar (short or long sleeved)
- Black trousers, black pinafore or black skirt – No black denim, joggers or leggings.
- Black shoes/trainers – plain or with discreet logos
- Plain white or dark coloured socks or tights
In all year groups including Nursery to Year 1 children may wear checked dresses which are green and white, during the summer months.
In all year groups including Nursery to Year 1 children may wear black short trousers during the summer months.
Pupils should bring an appropriate sunhat during hot weather.
Coats, jackets, hoodies and hats may not be worn in school – these should be for outdoor use only.
For Health and Safety Reasons:
- Backless shoes may not be worn.
- Only flat shoes may be worn – no heels are permitted.
- Flip flops, crocs etc may not be worn.
- Long Hair should be tied back for sports, DT, cooking.
- False nails or nail varnish may not be worn
PE/Sport Uniform – all year groups
To maintain uniform standards and ensure health and safety, all pupils must be appropriately dressed for PE/Sport and Swimming:
From the school’s uniform supplier:
- Gold Polo shirt
From parents’ chosen source:
- Black shorts
- Black Trainers – plain or with discreet logos
In cold weather all pupils should wear a black track suit top and bottoms without logos.
Swimming Uniform:
- One piece swimming costume (no bikinis)
- Swimming Trunks (no Bermuda shorts)
- Swimming hat
- Towel
Jewellery and Piercing
For Health and Safety reasons only stud earrings and a wristwatch may be worn.
Watches must be removed for sport and swimming.
Earrings must be removed or taped over for sport, and must be removed for swimming.
Nose studs etc. may not be worn.
NB – Swimming makes up the timetable for the required 2 hours of sport for Key Stage 2 classes. Please ensure ear piercing is left until the start of the summer holiday so that it does not prevent pupils from entering the pool. The school accepts no liability for jewellery which is lost.
Hair
Hair should be neat, natural and tidy with no extremes of style or colour. Styles should make pupils feel equal to their peers and not serve as distractions in class to learning and aspiration.
- No bright or non-natural colours (e.g. red, blue, purple, green etc unless authorised by the Headteacher as part of a charity or drama event)
- Hair-ties, bands, ribbons, slides, braids should be subtle, blend with the uniform colours and not pose any health and safety risk to your child or other pupils
Equipment
- The school does not accept any liability for loss of equipment, uniform or jewellery
- Uniform / bags / coats / lunchboxes etc should be clearly marked with your child’s name
- No knives or sharp implements may be brought to school under ANY circumstances
- Mobile phones should be handed to the class teacher at the beginning of the school day and collected at the end of the day
- No medicine should be brought to school by children or left in book bags / PE bags etc. All medicine must be left with a member of the office staff with a filled in medical form.
- Money should not be brought to school
Role of Parents/Carers
- To ensure your child comes to school every day in school uniform, unless there is an authorised charity day or event.
- To ensure your child adheres to the school’s uniform policy.
