Lingwood Primary Academy Newsletter 11th July 2025
Dear parents and carers,
One week to go!
This week we got our SATs results. I am delighted to announce that 81% of our children reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths. This is significantly above the national average of 62% and a big increase in what we achieved last year. Those children who did not quite get there have done brilliantly making incredible progress – we are so proud of you all. We celebrated in style at Great Yarmouth on Wednesday.
We also have had our phonics results. In year 1, 85% of the year passed their screening. Again, this is above the national average. Those children who didn't quite get there will receive additional support next year.
School is far more than results, and it was lovely to see our year 6 athletics team competing at the track in Bury on Monday. They did brilliantly and finished a very creditable 8th out of all of the Unity schools.
Continuing with the sporting theme, it is always good to hear about sporting achievements out of school. Esme (year 6) has been representing Norfolk at basketball. Last weekend she took part in a tournament in Essex and did tremendously well coming second. Well done, Esme.
Now we have confirmed our staffing for September, I can announce that Mrs Luck will be teaching Fox class on a Monday and Fawn class on a Tuesday. Mr Dibden and Mrs Smith will teach the rest of the week. In Nursery, Mr Scott will be the lead teacher on Monday and Tuesday with Mrs Mann leading on Wednesday to Friday. Mrs Gegory will be there all week. In Reception, Mrs Brighton will be the lead teacher Monday to Wednesday and Mr Scott on Thursday and Friday.
I hope to see you all after school for our summer fete. Thank you to FOLPA for running this event.
Have a lovely weekend
Mr Jeffery

Year Group News
Nursery
This week in Bishy’s class our Foundational Knowledge focus has been on self-regulation, specifically working on talking about our feelings and what a ‘worry’ is. We have been reading ‘The Worrysaurus’, who has a special tin of things that help him to feel better when he is worried – children have been thinking about what things they would put in their own happy tin!
Reception
This week Reception have been reading the book ‘Winnie the Pooh Helps Save the Bees’. The children have been finding out lots of interesting facts about bees and thinking about how we can protect them. In maths we have been consolidating our learning from the year and practising number formation.
Year 1
This week Year One have been learning about mapping in Geography. We have created story maps of the settings in our favourite stories and then created maps of our school, describing how to get to from our classroom to the Nursery. In our Reading sessions we have been reading The Proudest Blue and making inferences from illustrations. We have talked a lot about being proud to be us, the groups we belong to and our interests that make us unique. In Maths we have been learning about the sequence of days of the week and months of the year and have begun learning how to read o’clock times.
Year 2
This week Year 2 have worked hard using descriptive language in their writing. We have focused on using expanded noun phrases, similes and alliteration. In maths we have been consolidating our learning from the year, focusing on practicing addition and subtraction.
Year 3
Year Three have been working hard this week. In Maths we have been learning about statistics, the whole class showed incredible focus when drawing their own bar charts accurately. In reading we have continued to study The Magicians Nephew, we have enjoyed predicting what might happen next and writing messages of advice to the characters. In computing we have been learning about coding, we now know how to test and debug codes we have written. Next week we are looking forward to using our knowledge and planning to create our own Scratch projects.
Year 4
Year 4 have shown fantastic determination and ambition this week. In English we have been creative planning our own news reports ready to write next week. In maths, we have been recapping area and shape. In reading we are continuing to read our core text Wind and the Willows. The children have enjoyed the mischievous behaviour of Toad and his antics. I have been blown away by the effort that has gone into their home learning. In swimming this week lots of children reached their 50m front crawl and back crawl - we were very proud! Lots of dojos have been awarded! Fab stuff Otters! One week to go!
Year 5
Year 5 have started their DT project this week, where they worked collaboratively to build a mechanism to move a toy car up and down. In Maths, the children have been classifying shapes, including triangles, quadrilaterals and polygons. They have enjoyed playing rounders this week and we had a very competitive game!
Year 6
Year 6 had a lovely time at the beach for their end of year school trip this week. They played games, had an ice cream and went to the arcades.
Also, a huge well done to the class for their SATs results; they made huge progress this year and should be proud of themselves.
