Lingwood Primary Academy Newsletter 20th June 2025
Dear parents and carers,
I wanted to say a massive thank you to the parents who have come and spoken to me face to face about the changes we are having to make in September. In some schools the easy thing to do is to take to social media and wind each other up. I will try and make myself available in the playground as much as possible for the rest of the term, so please do come and speak to me.
I have had several emails asking, ‘Which class is my child is in?’ I understand you want to know, but we will be sending this information out to every parent at the same time next Wednesday. I want the meeting on Monday to be about how all children will have a successful year in mixed classes, rather than focusing on individuals. We have sorted out the classes but want to triple check them on Monday morning. Thank you for your understanding over this.
I know some parents have had a few worries over the senco situation. I wrote to you a couple of weeks ago to explain that Ms Clack was now working primarily at Heartsease. We now have an internal advert out for our new senco and hope to be announce who this is in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, if you have any SEND related questions, please speak to the class teacher or contact me through Mrs Tubby at the front office (office@lingwoodprimaryacademy.org.uk).
A reminder that Sports Day starts at 9.30am for Key Stage 2, but parent are welcome to come from 9am. Key Stage 1 will start at 1:15pm. Please bring a chair with you.
I thought I would share this email I received on Wednesday:
Good evening,
I just wanted to send a quick email praising the pupils who I saw in the village this morning completing their cycling safety sessions. They were really respectful and polite moving to make sure I could get along the path with my pushchair.
I am looking forward to seeing you on Monday evening and for what looks like a very warm Sports Day on Tuesday.
Have a nice weekend in the sun.
Mr Jeffery

Year Group News
Nursery
In Bishy’s this week our Foundational Knowledge focus has been linked to music and dance. Children have been experimenting with different parts of their bodies and different parts of instruments to make different sounds, creating sounds linked to our book ‘I am Nefertiti’, in which a girl builds her confidence after joining a band. As part of the Mexican Food Festival, we enjoyed chopping up peppers, tomatoes and other yummy ingredients for our burrito bowls.
Reception
This week Reception have been reading ‘The Story Orchestra’. They have really enjoyed learning about and playing lots of different instruments and playing games to identify the sounds they can make. In maths we have been revisiting repeated patterns and thinking about different rules for different patterns and where we see patterns in the real world. All the children enjoyed taking part in the Mexican Food Festival week and making delicious burrito bowls to try.
Year 1
This week Year 1 have been practising for sports day; there are some very fast runners amongst us! We also loved taking part in the CUSP Food Festival. We made smashed potatoes with pico de gallo and Mr Jeffery said our’s tasted the best (don’t tell the others!) We took part in the festival quiz with other children from around the country and learnt lots of new facts, including that raw potato is toxic and so inedible! We applied our Geography knowledge about countries and continents to find out more about Mexico and enjoyed listening to Mexican music! A lovely week!
Year 2
Year 2 have had a busy week! We started a new topic in maths – position and direction, and a new phonics scheme – sounds-write, both of which the children have made a great start with. The children also participated in CUSPs Mexican Food Festival Week making smashed spiced potatoes.
Year 3
Year three have been practicing for sports day this week and we have seen a lot of determination from the pupils! In writing we have worked hard to write our own historical stories using dialogue. In Maths we have been learning about time and although we have found some aspects tricky, we have persevered with our learning. We also took part in the Mexican food festival and enjoyed making sweetcorn fritters with pea guacamole.
Year 4
Year 4 have shown lots of ambition and determination whilst critically analysing poetry this week. In maths, the children have been reading and plotting co-ordinates ensuring they are going along the corridor and up the stairs. We also took part in the Mexican food festival where the children enjoyed making and tasting sweetcorn fritters with pea guacamole. We also started our new core text, ‘Wind and the Willows.’ where we have been introduced to Mole, Toad and Mr. Water Rat.
Year 5
This week, most of the class participated in Bikeability and the instructors commented on how well and how safe the children were on their bikes – well done! In writing, we have started understanding the conventions of a biography and in PE we have focused on athletics in preparation for sports day.
Year 6
Many of the class took part in Bikeability this week and the instructors mentioned how well the class did with their safety and behaviour. For the food festival, the class had a great time making tacos and learning about Mexican food – lots of children discovered a new food that they liked!

Fines for parents for taking children out of school: What you need to know
Remember that every day counts and we are in every day next week!
Mexican Food Festival
This week, Lingwood took part with many other Unity schools to be involved in the annual CUSP Food Festival. This year, the theme was, 'Mexican food.'
On Monday, as a school, we logged into a live assembly to launch the event this created a real buzz for the week!
All of our children got involved in live quizzes, cooking and tasting a variety of different mexican dishes.
- EYFS made burrito bowls
- Key Stage 1 made smashed spiced potatoes with Pico De Gallo.
- Lower Key Stage 2 made sweetcorn fritters with pea guacamole.
- Upper Key Stage 2 made tacos with roasted courgettes, smashed broad beans and pink onions.
Next year, instead of buying all of our ingredients we are hoping to grow some of the vegetables ourselves. In the closing assembly, Year 1 and 4 offered the idea of italian food to experiment with next year.
Throughout the week, Mr Jeffery has taste tested each of the classes dishes and today announced Year 1 the top chefs. Well done Squirrels, Miss Long and team.

Bikeability Year 5/6
This week, some of our pupils in years 5 and 6 completed their level 2 Bikeability.
The instructors were so impressed with the level of listening and respect from these pupils informing us that they have been the best group of children they have had all year! What a compliment to receive.
To top it off, we then received an email to the school separately also informing us about how thoughtful you were in the community. Well done!
Certificates and badges were given today. We are so proud of each and everyone of you.
