Lingwood Primary Academy Newsletter 16th May 2025
Dear parents and carers,
What a lovely week of weather! I have been really impressed how children have stayed smart with shirts tucked in despite the heat. Well done to year 6 - they coped superbly with their SATs and had a well-deserved reward yesterday.
One of the many highlights of my week was hearing from a parent who told me that her children go home and tell them that Mr Jeffery says in assembly that we want to be the best school in the world. Firstly, I am glad children listen to my assemblies, and more importantly, it is great to see and hear children with such great ambition.
Mrs Clack is having to spend her Tuesdays at Heartsease for the upcoming weeks. Fortunately, we have the very experienced Mrs Porter supporting the school and carrying out the SENCO role. Her email is sporter@unitysp.co.uk.
This week our attendance is once again impressive and stands at 97.4%. Well done to Year 6 for a stomping 100%.
Good luck to the staff team (and parent teams!) at the quiz tonight and have a lovely weekend. A reminder that half-term is the week after next (w/c 26th May) with children returning on Monday 2nd June.
Mr Jeffery

Year Group News
Nursery
This week in Bishy’s we have continued our Foundational Knowledge focus on plants, talking more about the life cycle of a plant and what a plant needs to grow. We have carried on reading the book ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’, learning the names of different vegetables and linking this to healthy choices about what we eat. In maths we have been working on counting small quantities of objects with good one-to-one correspondence and recognising numerals to 5, while in phonics children have shown huge progress with segmenting short words into their individual sounds and blending them back together – well done Bishy’s!
Reception
This week, Reception have been reading a book called ‘The extraordinary Gardener’. They have been learning all about planting and growing seeds and are investigating exactly what plants need to grow by placing plants in different places around the classroom. In maths we have been finding out about 2D shapes and how we manipulate and rotate them to make pictures and patterns.
Year 1
This week year 1 have enjoyed our DT Food and Nutrition topic. We learnt all about the importance of eating a range of fresh, colourful foods and learnt the skills of grating, ribboning and chopping to make rainbow wraps, crudites and vegetable kebabs. We loved using all our senses to explore our ingredients and then sampling our finished products!
In Maths we have continued our work on fractions and in Science we have been learning about the parts of a tree and their important jobs.
Year 2
Year 2 have been working hard in Maths this week. They have all done particularly well with counting fractions up to a whole. Everyone got to do the challenges. Well done Year 2!
In Science, we learned about the consequences if a plant does not get enough of what it needs. We started an investigation to find out what happens if a plant does not get enough light. We planted some cress seeds and have left some by the window and some in a cupboard with no light. We can’t wait to see the results!
Year 3
This week Year three have started our new unit in maths on Shapes. We have been learning about different types of angles. In writing we have started our unit: writing formal letters to complain and have been thinking about the difference between formal and informal language. This week we have also been lucky enough to have been visited by some one-day old pheasant chicks. We all enjoyed giving them a little stroke and learning about how to care for them.
Year 4
This week in Year 4, the children have started a few new units of work. In maths they have begun learning about time and in English the children have begun learning about diary entries and using informal language such as colloquialisms and idioms. The children were over the moon with our chick visit Tuesday afternoon; they were inquisitive and respectful. Thank you, Lottie, for coming in.
Year 5
This week, Year 5 have worked hard on their Pixl assessments, where they have shown determination and resilience. I am very proud of everybody for their hard work. In English, we have started writing our myths and legends story, making sure that we balance dialogue with description. In PSHE, we discussed what the children were most looking forward to about growing up and what they weren’t looking forward to. This was a mature conversation, and the children enjoyed sharing these with each other.
Year 6
Year 6 have worked incredibly hard this week during their SATs tests. They have showed real maturity and put in lots of effort into them – they genuinely could not have tried any harder and should be proud of what they have achieved.

Fines for parents for taking children out of school: What you need to know
Remember that every day counts and we are in every day next week!
School Survey
It's not too late to have your say. As mentioned in last week's newsletter we would like you fill out a survey to hear your views about our school. The more people that fill in the survey the better the understanding we have of what is going well, and more importantly, what we can do better. The survey is anonymous. Children and staff will also be completing similar surveys this week.
Please click on this QR code to complete.
Thank you for your time.

Special Visitors!
This week, lots of our classes were lucky to have a visit from Willow and Ruby's mum Lottie and some baby pheasant chicks! It was really interesting to hear all about them, to see the eggs they hatch from and to stroke them.
Thank you for coming to see us!
