Lingwood Primary Academy Newsletter 2nd May 2025
Headteacher's Update
Dear parents and carers,
As mentioned in my last newsletter, we would like you fill out a survey to hear your views about our school. The more people that fill in the survey the better the understanding we have of what is going well, and more importantly, what we can do better. The survey is anonymous. Children and staff will also be completing similar surveys this week.

A huge thank you to Sarah Seyrus for making our School promotional video. Please have a look and share.

With weather getting hotter, please ensure that your child is wearing suncreen to school, brings a hat and water bottle. If your child needs to reapply sunscreen they will need to have a nut-free labelled bottle which needs to be given to the class teacher.
After a little blip last week our attendance is once again good at nearly 97%. Well done to year 3 who won the attendance cup and Eric the Penguin with 99.6%.
Have a lovely Bank Holiday Weekend and see you on Tuesday morning.
Regards,
Mr Jeffery
Interim Headteacher

Year Group News
Nursery
This week in Bishy's we built on last week's learning, with a Foundational Knowledge focus of beginning to understand the effect their behaviour can have on the environment. We have talked about walking rather than using cars for transport, planting trees and flowers, and recycling - as part of this children have been making their own fun creations at the creative table using junk modelling!

Year 1
This week we have been tending to our cress growing experiment! In Science we have been learning about plants and growing and are conducting an experiment to see if plants can grow without soil. So far, the answer seems to be yes!
We have begun learning about more inspirational people in our History lessons. This week was the turn of Neil Armstrong and we enjoyed watching him take the first steps onto the moon.
Year 2
This week we have continued to learn about plants. We learned what a bulb is and that bulbs are perennial. We started an investigation. We planted three bulbs, one facing down, one facing up and one facing sideways. We will keep on eye on them and find out if the position of a bulb affects its germination.
We have also continued learning about fractions and have started to understand how to find a quarter of a number, find half of a number and to find a third of a number. Keep up the hard work!
Year 3
This week some of the Year 3 pupils took part in Bikeability. They listened well and have all learnt some valuable skills for riding their bikes safely. In reading we continue to read The dancing bear and have been thinking about animals we adopt and how this might impact them. In writing we have started to write our third person narratives and have been thinking carefully about the vocabulary we are using in our descriptions. In Art this week we have been learning about negative space and explored how to create silhouette.
Year 4
We have certainly enjoyed the sunshine in year 4 this week. We had great feedback from Bikeability so a big well done to the pupils who rode their bikes safely and completed their level 1. In science, the children persevered and built circuits whilst they extend their knowledge on electricity. In writing, children have been proud of their detailed planning, we have spoken about contrasting characters and the morals of our stories. We are looking forward to writing them next week.
Year 5
In English, we have finished writing our playscripts, followed by the children performing them. They worked hard on performing these. In Maths, we have been consolidating multiples and factors focusing on problem solving and reasoning questions. The children have considered useful strategies that help them with these questions such as, highlighting key vocabulary.
Year 6
In English, Year 6 have begun to write their newspaper reports and in maths, they are working hard on ratio. For DT, the class tested the strength of spaghetti which will help them in future lessons as they create constructions.
