Lingwood Primary Academy Newsletter 25th April 2025
Headteacher's Update
Dear parents and carers,
I hope you all had a wonderful Easter break. The children have come back to school in good spirits and have settled back into the ‘Lingwood Way’.
Last term I wrote to you about uniform expectations at Lingwood and it has been useful to hear some feedback from parents. Further to what I wrote in my last newsletter, please note that black or dark grey pinafore dresses can be worn and that plain hoodies are ok for outdoor PE. I hope that clears a few things up.
All Unity Schools are sending surveys to parents, staff and pupils this week. This type of feedback is really useful, and I would be grateful if you could spend a few minutes filling this survey in. As always, if there are any big issues please do not hesitate to contact the school so we can work things through.
Our weekly attendance has dropped a bit to 94.4%. The simple fact is that the higher the attendance for your child the more learning they can do. Often our absences are because of unauthorised holidays. I understand the frustrations around expensive holidays, but your child is missing crucial learning if they are going away in term and it is highly unlikely I will authorise the absence.
Well done to year 6 who managed 100%attendance for the week. Year 6 have SATS on the w/c 12th May and it is crucial they are in every day.
Have a good weekend and enjoy the mini heatwave which is set to come.
Regards,
Mr Jeffery
Interim Headteacher
Lingwood Primary Academy

Year Group News
Nursery
This week in Bishy’s class our Foundational Knowledge focus has been on environmental change, as we begin to understand the need to respect and care for the world around us. We linked this to Earth Day, and our book ‘Tidy’ in which Pete the Badger goes so over the top with tidying that he puts concrete over the forest floor! We have created our own forest and woodland stories in the small world tray, discovered different minibeasts in the sensory tray, and pretended to be Pete as we use construction vehicles and build in our construction area.
Reception
This week in Reception we have been reading the book ‘Eco Warriors’, finding out about people who have worked hard to protect our planet and have been thinking about ways we can also protect our environment. We have looked at recycling and how we sort our rubbish, we have also made posters to remind people about what they can do to help. In maths we have been learning about teen numbers and noticing that they are comprised of ten and another number.
Year 1
This week year 1 have been busy starting lots of new topics. We have been reminding ourselves of the features of a letter in our Writing lessons and reading our new book ‘There’s a Rangtan in my Bedroom’ in Reading.
In Maths we have been thinking about equal groups in our Multiplication topic and in Science we have revisited our learning on plants and have planted some cress seeds to investigate our question, ‘Can plants grow without soil?’
Year 2
Year 2 have made a good start to this term and are learning about plants. In Science we planted beans and in English we wrote non-chronological reports about plants. We have started a new book in Reading – Fantastically Great Women who changed the World!
Year 3
Year 3 have had a brilliant first week back from the Easter break. We had a visitor join us for our reading lesson on Thursday afternoon who shared what a pleasure it was to join the class and noted their excellent participation learning – well done! In writing we have started our unit on Third Person narratives and have been recapping our learning on different word classes. In Reading we have started a new book – The Dancing Bear which we are very excited about. This week in Maths we have been learning how to add, subtract and partition fractions.
Year 4
Year 4 have had an awesome start to the term! We have had excellent behaviour which has led to some truly wonderful work, excitement and focus in the classroom. The children have began some new units of work, including coding in computing, and reading a variety of literature from different cultures which will feed into their writing over the upcoming weeks. Today, year 4 had a blast in the pool and already we witnessed some great water confidence and swimming! Well done Y4!
Year 5
This week, we have started our playscripts unit in writing. The children have enjoyed performing these and have considered how to present themselves based on the stage directions. In reading, we have started a new book,
The Explorer,
which has hooked many already! In science, we have finished our Earth and Space topic, where the children presented the information that they had acquired.
Year 6
Year 6 made a good start to their new term and are learning about statistics in mathematics (line graphs, bar charts and timetables). In English they are starting to write a newspaper article and in reading they have begun a new book called Rooftoppers.
