Enrichment

Each year group receives the opportunity to participate in a range of additional activities to support the wider school curriculum.

Reception children participate in a weekly Drama session led by ‘The Little’s People Drama’ this develops their sense of imagination through role play, speaking and listening skills and confidence.

Year 1 children participate in an hour of Karate each Friday.

Year 2 and 3 have weekly bushcraft sessions which support their class topics as well as giving them opportunities to participate in a wide range of activities including: axe throwing, archery, fire lighting, cooking and much more. These groups continually work together to develop the bushcraft area at the top of our field. All these activities are fully funded for all our children throughout their time at Lingwood.

Year 4 learn to play an instrument as a class with lessons being delivered by qualified music teachers from Norfolk Music service. Each child receives an instrument to be able to practice at home.

Leadership

Each year, pupils in Years 5 and 6 are invited to apply for a range of roles and responsibilities to help support the rest of the pupils here at Lingwood Primary Academy. This also includes the important roles of Head Boy and Head Girl.

The Head Boy and Head Girl are selected from Year 6 pupils who put themselves forward to represent the pupils and to be ambassadors for the school. The applications are done at the end of the summer term, so that the Head Boy and Gil are in place for the new year. Their responsibilities include: showing visitors around the school; helping arrange and allocate the rest of the responsible roles for Years 5 and 6; helping in assemblies; and overseeing the Playground Buddies.

This year, our Head Boy is Lewis and the Head Girl is Charlotte.

Reading Ambassadors

We have a beautiful and well used Library which sits at the heart of the school. We run Junior Librarian which monitors our book usage and tracks the books across all children in the school. Miss Coley our Trust and School English Lead looks after our school library and she supports teachers and pupils who wish to have an active role in the Library.

Our Reading Ambassadors have some training on Junior Librarian, so that they can help others in changing their books.

In school, children from every year group are able to visit the library and access the hundreds of exciting genres available to them.

Playground Pals

Being a Playground Buddy at lunchtime involves helping the Reception children when they have their play time outside after their lunch. Playground Buddies also support play with other children, and organise games and activities for them. There is a weekly rota for the Buddies, so that they know which day they help out.

Office Support

Pupils who put themselves forward to be an Office Support Helper have the job of answering the phones during some lunch times, as well as welcoming visitors to the school as the enter the building. For this role, pupils go through some training with Mrs Tubby – [School Business Manager].

Assembly Monitors

This position involves pupils making sure the hall is ready for assembly on Monday and Friday – helping with chairs for staff and parents and benches for Year 6 before the assembly begins. They are also often responsible for starting and stopping the music played at the beginning and end of assembly.
