Great importance is given to children achieving and understanding mathematical processes, concepts and skills. Enthusiasm is encouraged by presenting it in an interesting and enjoyable way, allowing children to actively participate in the learning process thus creating a sense of achievement and confidence. There is a strong emphasis on the development of mental arithmetic and giving opportunities for pupils to use and apply mathematics to a range of problems. The 3 main aims of the National Curriculum focus on problem solving, reasoning and fluency.
Maths is taught daily in the mornings and lessons follow the scheme: ‘Power Maths’ in order to develop age related skills in line with the three main aims.
Children from yr 2 – 6 have individual accounts to log in to the online website Times Tables Rockstars. This gives the children various opportunities to practice their multiplication/division facts.
