Lingwood Primary Academy

Newsletter | 27th March

Dear Families,

This week we had a practice ‘lockdown’ drill where the children rehearsed what to do if they had to be kept in class away from potential danger. They were very calm and approached it sensibly and maturely. The class teachers spoke with the children in an age-appropriate way to describe what they are doing and why and it ran smoothly.

For sports day this year on Thursday 25th June, it will be through school years rather than classes. Reception and KS1 (Year 1 and 2) are in the morning, 9:30-11:30 and KS2 (Year 3 to 6) are in the afternoon 1:30-3:25.

We hope you can have some enjoyable and relaxing time with your children this Easter.

Heather Thorne

Interim headteacher

Nursery

This week Nursery have been reading ‘What Happened to You?’. They have been thinking about being polite and which questions we can ask people. Our Foundational Knowledge has been to learn about Easter and how people celebrate. The children have enjoyed lots of Easter crafts, counting chicks and looking at pictures of Easter celebrations. In maths we have been counting to 5 using stories rhymes and games.

Reception Rabbits

This week, Rabbits have learnt the Easter story and have enjoyed writing about how the festival is celebrated.  We have continued to observe the caterpillars and cannot wait to find out who gets to take them home and keeps us updated over the holiday.  Well done Rabbits on another successful term. Have a safe and fun Easter break together!

In maths we have been using tally charts, block diagrams and pictograms to represent statistics, while in history we have started to learn about the importance of David Attenborough and how his work and interests link to Mary Anning. Children have also made some lovely Easter crafts to take home. Well done on a great spring term, Hares class!

This week in maths we have been working on our problem solving and arithmetic skills. All of the pupils have been working hard and are showing a good understanding of how to identify the key words and numbers in the problems. In reading we have finished our study of Too Much Stuff and thought about what birds really need in their nests. We have also enjoyed exploring the different commands you can use when programming characters in Scratch during our computing lesson.

In maths they started a new unit on fractions – delving deeper into mixed fractions. We changed our books in the library ready for the Easter break so they have a fresh, new book to keep them busy! Lastly, they started their new core text, The Boy at the Back of the Class, which has created and promoted some thoughtful conversations.

Badgers have enjoyed finishing off their synopsis of A Midsummer Night’s Dream this week, making sure they included fronted adverbials, parentheses and concise language. In science, they learned about the Earth’s axis and how this creates day and night. They had so many questions and it was great to see their scientific minds at work! They have now finished their computing unit on flat-file databases and delved into our new topic of money in maths this week. Have a lovely Easter break Badgers!
