Year group news
Nursery
This week Nursery have been reading Funnybones and have enjoyed seeing what the skeletons got up to in the middle of the dark, dark night. Our foundational knowledge has been to learn about day/night, light/dark and how the seasons change. They have been making Autumn tree pictures, exploring Autumn leaves, conkers and pinecones and having fun in our dark tent. In maths we have been practising counting to three in the right order and singing lots of counting songs.
Reception Rabbits
This week the Foundational Knowledge focus in Rabbits class has been around seasons, practising the names of the seasons and then focusing on Autumn. We have been exploring what Autumn looks like when outside, which included a scavenger hunt as part of Outdoor Learning.
Hares
This week Hares have taken another step up in their learning by beginning separate Reading and Writing lessons. We are enjoying a new book, ‘Rapunzel’ in Reading (a twist on the traditional tale!) and we are starting to understand how to use adjectives to describe settings in Writing. Thank you to all families who attended the Parent’s Evening meetings – it was lovely to get to speak to you all in person for longer than five minutes at the door!
Fawns
This week Fawns class have been working hard in maths using column addition. In reading we finished the text: The Pebble in my pocket, thinking about what we liked/ disliked about the book. In writing we wrote the opening to our narratives, describing the main character and the setting for our story.
Otters
In Otter class this week, the children have been continuing their core text of The Wildsmith which they have been loving! They have been totally immersed in the book and are enjoying each chapter as it comes. In Maths, they have been revising addition and subtracting of two 4-digit numbers. The children continued with their boxes in D.T., by covering their boxes with cloth. They focused on covering the lid and the lining of their boxes. Fantastic work Otters!
Badgers
In Badger class this week, we have begun our unit on newspaper reports. The children especially enjoyed the quotation lesson where they needed to hotseat each other as witnesses to the event. In maths, the children have begun a new unit on multiplication and division – the past few days they have focused on multiples and factors. In History this week, we focused our attention to looking at influential people for Black History Month. The children did some fantastic reading and art work to go alongside.
Foxes
Fox class have been learning how to multiply by up to 4 digits in maths this week. In English, the class have started their narrative writing a story with a moral. They started a new unit this week in PE focusing on fitness and have finished hockey. Finally, in science, the class studied how nutrients are transported around the body.
Owls
Owls have continued their learning about David Attenborough. They have reflected on what they would like to do when they grow up and what skills they may need to be successful in their chosen future careers. In History, we have continued learning about the Stone Age and looked at artefacts from the Mesolithic period.

Well done and thank you for helping us grow a greener tomorrow! 🌱💚

Enrichment at Lingwood
At Lingwood, enrichment opportunities continue to play an important role in broadening our pupils’ understanding of the world around them. This month, as a school we have and will continue to be celebrating Black History Month through a range of engaging activities and discussions.
Children have explored the achievements and contributions of influential Black individuals throughout history, learning about their impact on society and the importance of equality, diversity, and inclusion. These experiences have encouraged thoughtful conversations and helped our pupils develop respect, appreciation, and understanding of different cultures and communities.
