Dear Families,
The children have continued to work hard across the school with a huge focus on handwriting and presentation in all their books. We are very proud of all pupils and the progress we have seen over the last 4 weeks. Respect continues to be a focus this week and we have discussed the importance of kindness when communicating to our friends.
All our key leadership responsibilities have begun and pupils are taking pride in these roles well promoting our values. School Council will be working on new ideas and opportunities across the school.
Thank you to those who attended our KS1 Soundswrite parent session, we hope that you found this useful. Parents evening information has been shared with you all and we would encourage you all to make appointments and have an opportunity to look at your child’s books.
Have a lovely weekend
Miss Laycock

Year group news
Nursery
This week in Nursery we have been reading ‘Let’s Go Outside’. We have been thinking about all the fun things you can do outside and even took our magnifying glasses out to see what we might find. We have also been learning about different types of weather and what we might need to wear to keep us warm, dry and protected, some of the children also enjoyed pretending to read the weather forecast with our pretend TV screen. In maths we have been looking out for repeats songs, stories and patterns.
Reception Rabbits
This week Rabbits have been reading the book ‘It’s a No Money Day’, in which a mum and her daughter plan a day of free activities before visiting a foodbank. Linking to the book, we have been learning a bit more about foodbanks as well as creating our own ‘free’ activities such as making musical instruments from everyday items. In maths we have been building our understanding of numbers 4 and 5, while in PE we built our skills of balancing and safe movement as we followed different paths and obstacle courses.
Hares
This week Hares have had a lovely time exploring how to measure length and height by using standard and non-standard units in Maths. We are also becoming much more consistent in using capital letters and full stops to punctuate our sentences. In our Science, we have learnt how day turns into night and made a model to help us understand this.
Fawns
This week in Fawns we have enjoyed learning about poetry and focussed on the rhythm in poems. The children performed a lovely poem as part of their learning. In Math we took part in the CUSP Money Matter festival and thought about the currency used in the UK, we explored making amounts of money in different ways.
Otters
In D.T., Otters have started their DT Textiles unit. Their learning question this unit is: How can you make a box out of cloth? They conducted a fair test and tested which solution would make a piece of cloth the most rigid to make a box. They also made fabric paper to increase its rigidity. In writing, they started their new unit on narrative descriptions. The children had images of different doors and had to write a short description in first person on what was behind the door.
Badgers
In Badgers this week we have continued to write our own diary entries, the children have worked hard orally rehearsing their ideas before writing them into their books. In maths, the children took part in the CUSP Money Matters Festival with Mrs Edwards – they showed determination in their budgeting skills and sharing the bill. In Outdoor learning the children had a great time being explorative. Some children in swimming this week, developed their butterfly technique. Lots of hard work across all the curriculum.
Foxes
Fox class have finished writing their discursive speech in English: next week they will be editing. In maths, they focused on the inverse with addition and subtraction and were very successful with it. In science, the class did an experiment to test whether the amount of wires affects the brightness of a bulb. In PE, the class competed in in mini-matches for hockey. Quite a few ankles were hit.
Owls
Owls have finished our work reading ‘The Wildsmith’ and talked about how it feels to be new somewhere and what helps us when we are nervous or anxious. In Science, we have looked at local plants in our environment and observed them closely. In History, we have started looking at the different periods of the Stone Age.
