Dear Families,
Our focus this week has been on our rule of respect. We have introduced new playground equipment at lunchtimes and the children have demonstrated respectful behaviours whilst playing with this. Our head playground pal pupils have risen to the challenge and been a big help in organising this for our children.
It has been lovely to see children attending school and arriving on time this week. We are always here to work with you to support engagement in school and was lovely to welcome families to our first parent session on accelerator reader. Just a reminder we have a phonics session on Thursday 1st October to learn more about our phonics programme sounds write and the Yr 1 screening check.

Year group news
Nursery
This week in Nursery we have continued with our story, The Same but Different Too. We have been talking about similarities and differences and why it’s good to be different. Our foundational knowledge has been to learn about our school and the local area. We have looked at photos from around Lingwood and Norfolk and been on a walk around the school to spot places like the hall, library and big playground. In maths we have been looking at how to manipulate shapes and blocks and exploring and building with different objects.
Reception Rabbits
This week Rabbits class have been reading the book ‘Stand up to Racism’. We have been thinking about equality and fairness and learning what these words mean. In maths we have continued looking at the numbers 0 to 3, practising ‘one more than’, while we also linked maths to our outdoor learning by estimating and measuring sizes of logs and sticks the children found in the woods.
Hares
This week Hares have continued with some tricky Maths including trying to master finding the missing number when using a ‘part-whole model’. We have also enjoyed our book, ‘Traction Man is Here’ and have written some wonderful sentences and questions. Ms Freezer and Miss Nelson are proud of us for becoming more independent in our learning and routines and would like to thank our families for supporting us in this too – it makes a big difference!
Fawns
In reading this week, Fawn class have finished writing their character descriptions. We have also been working on editing and upleveling our writing. In reading we have been studying the text: The Pebble in our Pocket and have been retrieving information from different text types. In maths we have been practicing counting in multiples of 2, 3,5,10 and 50. We have also enjoyed learning how to play Camouflage in outdoor learning this week.
Otters
A wonderful week in year 3/4, Otter class have been creating their artwork inspired by a poem. They used oil pastels and a different range of skills of mark-making and painting techniques. In P.E., they were learning how to change direction when running and dodging, which is a fundamental skill in all sports. In writing, they have begun to write their non-chronological reports on Lingwood Primary – some fantastic ideas are coming through so far! We finished our unit on Place Value and are ready to start addition and subtraction.
Badgers
Another super week in Badgers, they all published their first piece of writing. We had lots of proud children which was lovely to see, we will be displaying some of the work in the corridor so other children/staff/adults can also view their hard work. We have now moved onto first person diary entries, the children particuarly enjoyed learning about colloquialisms. In swimming, the three groups have been working hard on their front/back crawl. In Science, we continued looking at the purpose of teeth and why animals have different teeth to humans. In maths, we have finished our unit on place value. Next week, we will be moving onto addition and subtraction.
Foxes
In English, Fox class have finished their autobiography and begun their new unit on speeches. In mathematics, the class have been calculating with the inverse. In science, they have been used light meters to test whether the number of bulbs in a series circuit affects the brightness. Finally, in PE the class practiced shooting in hockey.
Owls
Owls have had an excellent week. We have continued writing about mythical creatures and reading more of our text ‘The Wildsmith’. Related to this we have made our own mythical creatures and Lego mazes for a minotaur. We have continued learning about compass points, looked at our school on a map and found nearby physical and human features.
Achievement Awards
Rabbit Class – Ivy for her enthusiasm in PE as she practised skills such as jumping and catching.
Hares Class – Niha for writing some wonderful sentences and question with accurate punctuation. Well done Niha!
Fawns Class – Finley for excellent work counting in multiples in maths this week.
Otter Class – Elio – for a fantastic start to his writing, with some great corrections of his own work being made. Because it is okay to make mistakes!
Badger Class – Donnie for fantastic use of colloquialisms, contractions and first person in his writing this week.
Fox Class – Malachi for really good explanation with his answers in reading.
Owls Class – Arthur James- for extending his learning in our Geography lesson about using a compass.
Star of the Week Awards
Rabbit Class – Bonnie for always showing so much respect to her classmates and teachers.
Hares Class – Grace for coming in each morning with a beautiful smile and being ready to learn. Keep it up Grace!
Fawns Class – Jayda for always showing kindness to her peers.
Otter Class – Elsie – for being concentrating hard during the input and being extra determined in all lessons.
Badger Class – Ella for always showing kindness and having a ‘can do’ attitude,
Fox Class – Erin for always being helpful taking an active role in the class.
Owls Class – Freya for being a kind friend and always caring about others.

Attendance Update
This week’s whole school attendance is 96%.
- In first place is Foxes with 98.9%
- In second place is Otters with 97.5%
- In third place is Rabbits with 97.1%
Please note, class teachers will be communicating with any parents of children whose attendance drops below 95% to offer additional support.
Well done to all the children arriving at school on time, ready to learn lets see if we can again increase our attendance next week! A reminder that the school gates will continue to be open from 8.30 am and closed at 8.40am. Registration is at 8.40 am and school finishes at 3.25 pm.

Harvest Festival
School and Eco Council have been working hard the last week encouraging their peers to support the Trussell Trust Foundation. In each class, they have a totaliser poster running so we can count the amount of tins that come into school. The staff also have their own totaliser, we are aiming for a total of 200 tins to donate by Wednesday 7th October, where we will welcome the local Reverend in to school to deliver the children a Harvest Assembly.
