Newsletter | 11th September
Dear Families,
It has been a lovely first week back, all pupils have continued to demonstrate our key values and rules across the school. As the term progresses we will focus on one value or rule each week and highlight it within the future newsletters.
All children were excited and fully engaged during the start of our outdoor learning sessions with Mrs Marjoram. It has been brilliant to see how our children explored the outdoor environment and engaging in new opportunities. As we move through the year we will be developing the outdoor area alongside the enrichment curriculum. Please be reminded all pupils MUST have at least a coat at this point in the autumn term to be able to fully participate in the sessions.
Hares and Fawns have experienced their first enrichment workshop on the Great Fire of London, showing our Lingwood values throughout their session. There has also been some lovely home learning on this topic already so thank you for supporting your children to complete this. Badgers went to Heartsease Primary for the first swimming session of the year.
Individual music lessons began this week with an external guitar teacher and our piano/singing teacher. There are still some spaces if this is of interest to your child contact the school office.
As I walk around classrooms it has been a delight to see all pupils with a reading book and regularly recording their home reading in their reading records. It is paramount all children read and read together with an adult as it makes such a difference to the progress made in school.
In accordance with the the updated guidance in Keeping Children Safe in Education document. Today, your child will be coming home with a class dojo permission letter. This is to ensure we keep all of our children at Lingwood safe online. I invite all parents to review their parental consents on Arbor as we still have a few children as ‘pending,’.
I am sure after this very busy week all children will be ready for a restful weekend with families and friends. We look forward to another positive, engaging week next week.

Year group news
Nursery
It has been lovely to meet some of our new children this week and see how well they have settled into Nursery, we are really proud of how the other children have been such great role models. This week we have been reading ‘Nursery? Not Today!’ and talking about all the things we enjoy doing at Nursery. In maths we have been singing counting songs and looking at ‘more’ and ‘fewer’ and our foundational knowledge has been to look at our visual timetable so we know all the things we will be doing at Nursery.
Reception Rabbits
This week Rabbits class have continued to focus on settling into school, understanding the school rules, routines and expectations. We have had a focus on fairness, thinking about ways we can be kind to each other and linking this to our focus book ‘I’m (almost) Always Kind’. In maths we have been looking at how we group objects, while in phonics we have been using the letter sounds m, a, t, s and i to read, write and spell words. Children also loved their first outdoor learning session and starting PE!
Hares
What an exciting first full week for Hares class! We had a wonderful time learning about The Great Fire of London and cannot wait find out more in our History lessons next week. We also really enjoyed our time with Mrs Marjoram and Miss Kemp on Thursday in our Outdoor Learning and Music. Ms Freezer and Miss Nelson are really impressed with our writing and cannot wait to see what we can produce by the end of the year with such a strong start already. Roll on next week!
Fawns
What a lovely first full week in Fawns class. We have enjoyed a workshop about The Great Fire of London and I was really impressed by how many facts the children had already learnt from their home learning and their own research – Well done Fawns. We have also started reading Greta and the Giants in reading and exploring the place value of 2- and 3-digit number sin maths.
Otters
This week Otters class have had a wonderful start to the new term. They have shown kindness, determination and hard work within the classroom. During their writing lessons, they have been lyrical poets creating short poems and performing them to one another. In science, they explored how the human skeletal system works and found comparisons between animals too. They had their first outdoor learning session today showing enthusiasm and great skills.
Badgers
Badger class have had a fantastic start to the new term, showing the Lingwood rules and values within and outside of the classroom. Badgers class have been busy learning about persuasive adverts in writing, what the features are of a river in geography and the purpose of teeth in Science. This week, the loved outdoor learning and today, they went swimming for the first time this year. All children were very well behaved and showed the Lingwood Way. What a fantastic start to the year Badgers.
Foxes
Fox class have had a great start to the term. They have settled into the routines and are following the expectations well. In class we have started an autobiography in English, electricity in science and are studying the Benin culture in history.
Owls
Owl class have settled in very well and have been brilliant becoming familiar with their new routines. In English, we have started our new text ‘The Wildsmith’ and in Art, we have made pebbles out of clay.
Achievement Awards
Rabbit Class – Benjamin for showing great determination as he worked on his writing in phonics.
Hares Class – Ora for attempting everything with such a positive attitude – thank you and keep it up!
Fawns Class – Malakai for his excellent recall of facts in our Great Fire of London workshop.
Otter Class – Jenson for his wonderful jump rope skills in P.E.
Badger Class – Gene for taking his time to understand his book and scoring 100% on his accelerated reader quiz.
Fox Class – Max for really good effort and work in English this week.
Owls Class – Louie for working incredibly hard in his Maths lessons this week.
Star of the Week Awards
Rabbit Class – . Hattie for being a great model in class and following the Lingwood Rule of always being ready for learning.
Hares Class – Nelly for stepping up to the Year 2 learning but also showing such kindness to the rest of her class.
Fawns Class – Betsy for her fantastic effort in all lessons – Well Done.
Otter Class – Matthew for settling beautifully into his new class and always following the Lingwood Way.
Badger Class – Lily for settling into Lingwood and Badger class and showing the Lingwood Way. A great role model already.
Fox Class – Olivia for working very hard this week and following the Lingwood Way with routines.
Owls Class – Madison for trying her best in everything and for being a great role model to others.
Congratulations to you all – we are very proud of you for showing kindness, determination and ambition.
Attendance Update
This week’s whole school attendance is 99%.
- In first place is Foxes with 100%
- In joint second place is Fawn and Rabbit with 99.6%
- In third place is Badgers with 98.9%
Please note, class teachers will be communicating with any parents of children whose attendance drops below 95% to offer additional support.
Well done to all the children arriving at school on time, ready to learn lets see if we can again increase our attendance next week! A reminder that the school gates will continue to be open from 8.30 am and closed at 8.40am. Registration is at 8.40 am and school finishes at 3.25 pm.

Breakfast/After School Clubs
We are delighted to announce that our KS1 and KS2 Multi-Sports clubs are full for Autumn Term 1. In addition to these clubs, we are welcoming back our external providers to run cookery club on Mondays and new for this half-term we are offering a Tennis breakfast club (Tuesdays only) ran by Acle Tennis club. There will be four sessions this half term and if successful we will look to be able to offer this club throughout the year dependent on pupil numbers. If your child is interested in joining this club please see the attached form and make direct contact with Warren Sawyer.
Over the course of this academic year, we are looking forward to adding to our enrichment opportunities.
