Published: 5 June, 2026

Dear Families,

Welcome back to school, I hope your children all had a lovely time away and are ready for the term ahead. Over the next week, Year 1 will be taking a phonics screening assessment and Year 4 will be finishing their multiplication table check .

This week, Fawn class had an amazing trip to the aviation museum and really upheld the Lingwood rules of being respectful. Many people commented on how good their behaviour was and they should be proud.

Please see the FOLPA newsletter for more information regarding their fundraising.

Year group news

Nursery

This week in Nursery, we have been reading ‘Do Baby Elephants Suck Their Trunks’. We have enjoyed finding out about lots of different baby animals and how they are the same or different to us. We have also looked at some animal lifecycles and thought about how animals can change as they grow. In maths we have been spotting patterns around us in stories rhymes and artwork and have tried creating our own.

Reception Rabbits

Rabbits have had a wonderful start to their last term in Reception.  We have been finding out what makes us unique and how we are different from each other.  Lots of us have enjoyed making secret dens inspired from our story, ‘Bear Shaped’.  Thank you to everyone who has donated a teddy, Mrs Brighton will be taking them to a charity shop soon.  Ms Freezer has loved her time teaching the little Rabbits and hope they have a lovely rest of the year!

Hares

This week in DT Hares class have continued to experiment with new techniques and various textiles; they glued yarn into their own patterns, and used chalk dipped in water to create their own artwork. In science we have revisited the topic of animals including humans, reminding ourselves of the characteristics of mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish. In maths we have started a new topic on time, learning how to read a clock up to half past the hour.

Fawns

Fawns class have had an exciting start to this half term. In art we have enjoyed exploring different painting techniques. On Tuesday we visited the aviation museum to deepen our understanding of the history of flight, I was really impressed with the pupil’s recall of facts we had learnt about planes in class. We also got multiple comments from staff and members of the public about how polite our children were – they should all be very proud of themselves, I know I am!

Otters

This week Otters have been exploring what it is like to become a news reporter as they write their news reports on a dog that has escaped and found its way to the Lingwood playground! In maths, they continued to explore decimals before moving onto money. In reading, we will be starting a new core text which has been added to our curriculum this term, The Iron Man. In art, they have been using a different medium to a paintbrush – tissue paper! To blend their colours to create a gradient ombre effect of white to black.

Badgers

Badgers have had a lovely first week back and they have been hard at work creating their biographies on Sir David Attenborough. They have been using fronted adverbials, relative clauses and subordinate clauses to extend their sentences and create some cohesive pieces. In maths, they have been learning about statistics and how to read and interpret different charts and graphs. In art, they explored adding different types of salt to watercolour paint, to see what patterns it would make and there have been some very interesting results! Keep it up Badgers!

Foxes

Foxes had no internet and an ant infestation this week so had to work in the Orange Room for two days! The time flew by in there and many enjoyed having a change. In terms of work, the class have done lots of writing this week – specifically on building character, atmosphere and setting. In DT, the class built parallel and series circuits and in geography, studied the terrain of Jamaica.
