Dear Families,

What a fantastic week it has been with many trips and experiences for our children. Starting the week on Monday, our mini marathon event was a great success with so many families joining to support the children as they completed their laps of the field.

Year 6 have had a fantastic week on their annual residential at Hautbois and Badgers visited the Bridewell Museum to support their curriculum.

Finally, Reception visited the local Care Farm Lingwood meeting many animals and having a lovely morning. All our children showed exemplary behaviour throughout and were a credit to our school.

Have a lovely sunny weekend

Year group news

Nursery

This week in Nursery we have continued reading ‘Elephant in my Kitchen!’. The children found out why the animals were in the kitchen and not in their own habitats and have been learning about why some animals are endangered. Our foundational knowledge has linked to our story and the children have been enjoying sorting recycling in our classroom and exploring paper pulp as well as thinking about how they can help look after our environment. In maths we have been looking out for 1, 2 and 3 in stories and rhymes and using our fingers to show these numbers.

Reception Rabbits

This week Rabbits have been busy running the mini marathon and visiting the local farm. On Monday we enjoyed making our own medals, trophies and numbers to compete with. At the farm we loved seeing the baby animals and then holding and feeding them.

Hares

This week in Hares class we enjoyed making smoothies! We have used the experience to start a new English writing task, working on instructional writing to outline the steps involved in making a smoothie. Our new core text is ‘Mrs Noah’s Pockets’, which we have been using to work on skills including retrieval and summarising texts. In maths we have continued to learn about money as we compared amounts of coins and looked to find the right amount of change. In science we are building our vocabulary around the parts of a plant.

Fawns

This week in Fawns we have finished our core text Tad. We enjoyed exploring the use of colour in illustrations to show the mood of a text. In maths we have finished our unit on statistics and have been collecting and representing data in different ways. The children showed excellent teamwork skills.

Otters

This week Otters have continued to read their core text, The Boy at the Back of the Class. They have explored in greater depth food chains in Science. They have started the sport of football in their P.E. lessons and have been learning how to dribble a ball. In art, using wire wrapped in tissue paper, they made 3D art sculptures. We started our new unit in maths of time. In writing, they finished their diaries and started their new unit of third person adventure stories.

Badgers

This week, Badgers have finished their core text, ‘I am Not a Label’. They have been brilliant at class discussions around all the topics in the book! Next week, they will start their new core text, ‘Secrets of a Sun King’. In English, they began planning their ancient Greek myth – there are some very exciting stories that they have come up with! Finally, in maths, they have begun to learn about decimals.

Today, they had their trip to the Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell to learn all about the Mayan culture and some interesting facts about chocolate and how it became the chocolate we know and love today! The children were fantastic on the trip and represented us very well.

Foxes

Fox class has been split between the Year 5 and 6 children for most of the week. The Year 5 children have been with Miss Mills and behaved very well in class and during their visit to the Bridewell Museum.

Year 6 had their residential at Hautbois and had a fantastic time. They represented themselves and the school really well, showing the Lingwood values and making the most of their time there.

Mini-marathon

A huge well done to the school for taking part in the first mini-marathon. The children and parents had a great time watching and it was a really lovely afternoon (and it didn’t even rain!).

Bridewell Museum visit

Today, Badger class and some of Foxes went to the Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell for a chocolate workshop! They learned all about the origins of chocolate, how it came to Europe and how it became the chocolate that we know (and love) today. They also had a lovely tour around the museum itself and learned a lot about Norwich through the ages.

Hautbois

The Year 6 children had a fantastic time at Hautbois. The weather was great, the activities were fun and challenging and the children (and adults) had a great time. Some of the activities they took part in included: abseiling, kayaking, ziplining, monkey climbing and tomahawk throwing.

Thank you to Mrs Marjoram and Miss Freezer for helping out and making it a memorable experience for the class. Enjoy the weekend and rest well!
