Dear Families,
What a busy week in school with so much going on! We started the week with a Pinocchio theatre production that the whole school came to. On Wednesday, we were treated to a Rocksteady concert with parents – thank you Mark for this, the children had a great time and so did the crowd. Year 1 also took part in a multi-skills tournament and really enjoyed themselves. On Thursday, Mrs Smith took some children to plant some trees for the community garden – we hope to do some more things in the future with them. Finally, today was crazy hair day for Comic Relief. We also managed to fit in some learning!
Please see the letter regarding uniform – it really is important to come to school wearing the correct uniform (including PE clothes). Please do let a member of staff know if you have any concerns.

Year group news
Nursery
This week, Nursery have continued reading Wow! Said The Owl. We have been thinking about what happens in the story and putting pictures in order to show what happened at the beginning, middle and end. We have also been sorting objects by colour and having fun with coloured blocks. In maths we have been making repeating AB patterns with beads, counters and other objects. We have also been looking at patterns in construction and in the order of events through the day.
Reception Rabbits
This week Reception have been learning about animal habitats. We have looked at where different animals live, such as frogs in a pond, polar bears in the arctic, flamingos in lagoons and pandas in forests. We have continued our learning on life cycles, this time looking at the life cycle of a frog. We have enjoyed our story Tad, which follows the journey of Tad the tadpole as she grows and changes into a frog.
In maths we have continued our learning on number bonds and using part whole models. We also enjoyed going to our first ever singing assembly.
Hares
Hares have had a busy and exciting week. We started off with the Pinocchio theatre visit which we loved and then went on our first Y1 visit to the Y1 Multi-Skills Festival. All our teachers were extremely proud of us for showing our determination on each activity, but also how polite and well behaved we were! In class, we have finished our stories set in school – Ms Freezer was particularly impressed with how our story writing has developed since last term. Well done Hares, let’s keep it up through our last week next week!
Fawns
This week in maths we have been looking at using the four operations when measuring mass and capacity. In reading we have been thinking about the difference between a prediction and a guess. We have been using what we have learnt from the text to make sensible predictions. We have also enjoyed watching a production of Pinocchio on Monday and attending an online assembly led by Active Canaries.
Otters
This week Otters have continued to look at measurement in maths. They can find and compare equivalent lengths. In writing, they continue to learn how to write a persuasive advert – they have learnt to use rhetorical questions. In art they used their printing blocks they made last lesson to create geometric patterns – these were constructed of cardboard and elastic bands.
Badgers
Badgers have been continuing their writing on A Midsummer Night’s Dream, refining their skills on adding parentheses and using the present tense. They thoroughly enjoyed the theatre production on Monday and they had a special backstage pass after the show to find out about how a theatre production works! In science, they have been so enthusiastic when learning about the moon phases and finding out why we have lunar eclipses. Well done to the children who took part in the Rocksteady concert on Wednesday! The whole class loved seeing them all perform and they all did an amazing job.
Foxes
The Year 6 children in Fox class have had assessments this week – well done for all your efforts. You worked very sensibly and maturely. In mathematics, the class have studied position and direction; specifically coordinates. In reading, the class finished their book on the Windrush Generation and in art have nearly completed their water colours. Fox class enjoyed the theatre production this week and also the Rocksteady concert.
