Lingwood Primary Academy

Dear Families,

What a busy week! We have had three Christmas concerts, a musical instrument performance, the Rocksteady show to parents and movie night (as well as many other things I’m sure I have forgotten to write). During these events, the children really showed the best of Lingwood Primary Academy and did themselves proud.

It is also pleasing to see so many positive messages and photos shared over Class Dojo – if you are not already, please do sign up. If you are not sure how to, speak with your child’s class teacher as we are more than happy to help.

As we enter the final week, we will still be on the usual teaching timetable and lessons right up to the final day so it is important to remember to attend school every day as we approach the end of term because every day counts.

Thanks,

Lawrence Dibden

Interim deputy headteacher

Year group news

Nursery

This week in Nursery we have been reading You Choose Fairy Tales. The children have been thinking about who they would like to go on adventures with and how they would travel. In maths we have been looking at patterns and using peg boards to make stripes and zig zags. We were so proud of all the children for performing so brilliantly in our Christmas show on Wednesday, they really were little stars!

Reception Rabbits

This week we’ve continued the festive theme in Rabbits class by focusing on the nativity story, building a story map and learning the meaning of some unfamiliar words linked to the story. In maths we have focused on measuring the weight of objects, while in phonics we began using the letter sounds j, w, and z to read and spell words. Lastly we’d like to say another big well done to all the children for their fantastic singing and performances in our nativity!

Hares

Hares Class have had a wonderful week started by their joint effort in the Nativity – all the teachers were super proud of each and every one of them!  We have continued our learning on structures in D&T and learnt how to make specific joins such as slots, flanges, hinges and feet.  We will apply this learning next week when we make a Christmas Tree tower.  Please send in as much junk modelling materials as possible with your child so we are ready to build!

Fawns

Wow, what a week! We have had a lovely week of Nativities, Christmas concerts and musical shows. We are all so proud of how well the children have grown in confidence over the past few weeks preparing for them all – well done Fawns! In maths this week we have continued to work hard on our multiplication skills and in history we have been recapping our learning on the history of flight.

Otters

Otters were amazing during their Christmas performance this week singing the 12 days of Christmas: their hard work paid off! We have also been working hard in our writing lessons and have begun writing our own third person adventure stories and are excited to see how they develop.

Badgers

Badgers have been hard at work practising for their performance and they did an amazing job! I was so proud of each and every one of them! They have been continuing to write their stories in English and they are taking real care to punctuate their speech. In history, they have enjoyed learning about Greek myths, especially the story of King Midas. Well done Badgers and keep up the hard work!

Foxes

Fox class were real role-models to the school this week during the Christmas concert. In maths, they are continuing fractions and in English have finished their explanatory text. They also started their new DT unit of gears and pulleys.
