Newsletter | 10th October

Published: 10 October, 2025

Dear Families,

It has been another very exciting week of learning at Lingwood – I have seen some fabulous maths lessons with super challenges in Badger Class and some excellent reading in Hares class.

I have really enjoyed getting to know your wonderful children and spending time with them at lunchtime and seeing them in their lessons.

We are very much looking forward to seeing many of you for Parents’ Evenings next week – a time for teachers to celebrate with you all that your children are learning and how they have settled this year.

Today, we say see you soon to Miss Coley. Whilst she will be greatly missed, we wish her and her family all the best whilst she is on maternity leave.

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs J Sendall

Interim Headteacher

Year group news

Nursery

This week, Nursery have been reading ‘My Hair’. The children have enjoyed trying out different hairstyles in our hair salon and practising their cutting skills as well as washing dolls hair. We have really enjoyed looking at all the photos of the children when they were younger and trying to put them in the right order. In maths we have practising counting in order up to 3. The children have been counting sounds, counting in songs and counting on their fingers.

Reception Rabbits

As part of our work on Black History Month, this week Rabbits class have been reading the book ‘Stand up to Racism’. We have been thinking about equality and fairness and learning what these words mean. In maths we have been learning about repeating patterns, continuing and making our own ‘ABC’ and ‘AAB’ patterns. Children have been making great progress with their reading in phonics as we continue to learn a new set of sounds.

Hares

Hares have had another amazing week and have made Ms Freezer extremely proud!  We carefully made different types of sliders in our DT lesson showing our ability to listen, follow instructions and use fine motor skills.  We also wrote our first long piece of writing and described a wintery park, making great use of adjectives!

Fawns

Fawns have worked hard in maths this week working on subtracting 2- and 3-digit numbers with exchanges. We have worked hard on our presentation and looked at how we use the column method to solve problems. In writing we have started drafting our stories based on well-known nursery rhymes.

Otters

Otters have been working hard this week trying to master new mental methods of adding and subtracting using partitioning. We have also begun planning our own diary entries for our final piece in our writing unit. In art, we learnt about intermediate colours and used paint to explore the different colours we could make.

Badgers

Badgers have once again been developing their skills with augmented reality, to produce an Ancient Greek scene! They have now finished their myth about Odysseus and the cyclops and it has been wonderful to see their creativity. In maths, we have now moved onto addition with column method, which they have been whizzing through. Well done Badgers, keep it up!

Foxes

This week Fox class started their food technology unit and made burritos. In English, they finished and edited their persuasive speeches in English and also started to learn about factors and multiples in maths.

Remember that every day counts and we are in every day next week!

One Tree Day at Lingwood

Polite reminder that next Friday 17th October children will be invited to wear non-uniform to raise money and awareness for One Tree Charity.

This is a charity we have supported for the past two years and with every single £1 donated this will plant another tree!

This year, we will gain Planet Hero School status which our school council team are elated about.

So far, in Lingwood’s forest we have 294 trees! Let’s see how many more we can add this year.
