Dear Families,

We are very proud of all children over the last 2 weeks in school managing school in the incredible heat whilst continuing to show determination in all their work.

Sports Day was a lovely opportunity for the school community to join together and celebrate with the children as they engaged in non-competitive activities as well as the traditional sports day races. I would like to thank all parents and the staff team for all your support throughout the day.

As you are all aware the children will bring home letters sharing the staffing structure and the classes they are in today. This has been a very well thought out approach and we look forward to the children joining these classes on the set transition days on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th July. These days are designed to support building new relationships with peers and teachers and have some enjoyable learning sessions. The outline letter was shared back on 24.6.26 detailing the plans for how transition will run on these days. I am also delighted to share that your child will bring home a paper copy of their end of year report today much earlier than planned.

Remember to join FOLPA for the Silly Sprint on 10th July at the village hall. Separate information has been shared around this. Huge thanks to the FOLPA team for all their fundraising this year, if anyone would like to join this team then please make contact with us.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Year group news

Nursery

This week, Nursery have been reading the story ‘Oi Frog!’. We have been listening out for rhyming words and trying to remember what each animal in the story is sitting on. Our foundational knowledge has been to develop fine motor skills. We have been using playdough, clay and slime to make different shapes and patterns and we have really enjoyed doing lots of Dough Disco. In maths we have been counting to five using songs, stories and games.

Reception Rabbits

This week in Rabbits class we have been learning about different styles and genres of music, building our descriptive language to talk about the similarities and differences between songs. Children have been writing down their own favourite songs, then today we had our own class disco to enjoy them all! We have been reading a lovely story called ‘Family and Me!’ about how our families may shape who we are, but we still develop our own individual personalities.

Hares

This week we have started to finish our final pieces of learning in different subjects.  We have compared Neil Armstrong and Mae Jemison and their achievements in history, started to sew our hand warmers in DT and had a great PE lesson where we competed in some silly races.  We can’t wait for next week and seeing where we will all be next year when we are in Year 2 or Year 3 – how exciting!

Fawns

This week in Fawns we have started building our DT projects, we are looking forward to finishing them over the next few weeks. In maths we have been working on hard on multiplying 1,2- and 3-digit numbers and in writing we have started our unit on stories from other cultures. In PE this week we have enjoyed playing Kwik Cricket and learning the skills needs to improve our aim.

Otters

This week Otters have been busy learning all about triangles, angles and quadrilaterals as part of their topic on shape in maths. In English, we continue to learn all of the skills needed to write an explanatory text about how to build an electrical circuit. During D.T. the children made Mexican pasties! They turned out fantastic and had a delicious filling (though there were some mixed reviews) of tomatoes, chickpeas, sweetcorn and peppers.

Badgers

This week Badgers have been writing a balanced argument on topics such as ‘should plastic bottles be banned?’ We have been learning about using rhetorical questions and emotive language. We have also been learning about quadrilaterals, triangles and lines of symmetry.

Foxes

The Year 6 children in Fox class had their transition days at Acle Academy this week – I’m sure they can’t wait to go there! The whole class took part in the colour run this week which meant that we returned with lots of children looking like Smurfs. In class, Foxes started a new unit in English and will be writing a story with a moral. In DT, they began to create their product using either a series or parallel circuit to power the components.
