Dear Families,

We have all had a busy start to this final half term. I would like to recognise how hard our Yr1 and Yr 4 pupils have worked on their statutory assessments on the phonics screening check and Yr 4 multiplication check. The children focused very hard throughout their practice sessions and on the assessment. I would like to thank all the staff who have helped support these children.

As you can imagine we are currently busy planning and organising arrangements for September. I can confirm we will continue with mixed age classes next academic year and we will be able to confirm classes at the beginning of July ahead of our transition days on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th July. Further information will be shared around this on Friday 3rd July.

Miss Mills has had her last day with us on Wednesday. She has been a valued member of the team and we wish her well as she starts maternity leave and begins this special time with her family. I am pleased to share we will have Mr McFayden join us in Badger class for the remainder of the year.

Miss Coley will also be returning from maternity leave and back in school for set days over these remaining weeks.

Enjoy your weekends in the sunshine.

Caroline Laycock

Headteacher

Year group news

Nursery

This week in Nursery we have continued to learn about London, looking at the most famous landmarks and thinking about what London was like in the past. The children have enjoyed recreating Big Ben and Tower Bridge from construction bricks and drawing their favourite building. In maths we have been finding and counting to five using songs and stories to help us.

Reception Rabbits

This week Rabbits class have been building up to sports day by learning about different sporting heroes. We have tested our skills at a variety of different activities in our outside area, while discussing why exercise is important and how to keep ourselves healthy. We were also very privileged to have a video call with Paralympian Mel Clarke, learning more about her amazing achievements in archery.

Hares

This week Hares have had a wonderful time practicing for Sports Day and writing a letter to Miss Laycock about the jobs they would like to do in the future. In maths we have finished learning about time and have now moved on to comparing and measuring weight. Roll on next week and Sports Day!

Fawns

This week in Fawns we have enjoyed learning about photosynthesis in science and have been investigating what happens if a green plant does not have any light. In reading we have been thinking about the moral of our class text, Budgie, and have discussed times when we might judge something before trying it. We have finished the week exploring how we have changed over time in PSHE and practicing for Sports Day next week – we are all very excited.

Otters

Otters have continued to learn about Cultural Stories and are doing an amazing job! We learnt how to use direct speech and how to use fronted adverbials of time and manner to convey characters. We have also finished learning about the water cycle and we had a fantastic class debate about deforestation and how it affects the water cycle.

Badgers

Badgers have had a fantastic week and I am so proud of their hard work. They have finished their playscripts and they have put in a lot of effort into writing, directing and performing them. We have finished our unit on negative numbers and will be going onto shape and time in the next few weeks. In art, they have enjoyed exploring the effect different materials have on watercolour paint and creating their own paintings based on their preferred watercolour effect. Well done Badgers and keep up the good work!

Foxes

Fox class have started to write a discursive speech this week and in maths consolidated their understanding of factors, multiples and prime numbers. In science, they were very interested when learning about DNA and how crops can be genetically engineered. Finally, in reading, the class finished their book Dare To Be You.
