Dear Families,

It has been a lovely week despite the significant change in weather. Throughout recent assemblies, we have been focusing on school values including kindness and our school rules on respect. We have also discussed how we feel proud of our achievements and it is lovely to see and hear all the things children are achieving outside of school; especially those footballers who have brought their trophies in. Please keep letting us know any achievements.

Year group news

Nursery

This week in Nursery we have been learning all about the royal family. We have been talking about who is in the royal family, understanding that we used to have a queen and now have a king. Our focus book has been ‘The Queen’s Hat’, which we have also been linking to different types of weather – suitable for a week when we have been fascinated by the wind, rain, sunshine and even hailstorms that we’ve experienced!

Reception Rabbits

This week Rabbits class have been thinking more about different types of transport. After enjoying our focus book ‘Amazing Machines’, children experimented with a range of fixing techniques to make their own vehicles from junk modelling. Children then worked hard at writing sentences about their favourite types of transport. In maths we have been looking in more detail at numbers past 10 through to 20, working in pairs to talk about what we notice when comparing these numbers as we count objects onto tens frames.

Hares

This week Hares have completed their Phonics Screen Check.  Everyone has tried their hardest and all of us teachers are super proud of each and every Hare – well done to you all!  We have also started our portraits in art and they are looking fantastic.  What a great week!

Fawns

This week in Fawns class we have completed our unit on telling the time in maths and moved on to reasoning and problem-solving skills with addition problems. In writing we have begun our unit on writing formal invitations and are looking forwards to planning and writing our own over the next few weeks. We also enjoyed a sports day practice with Hares class this week.

Otters

Otters started a new topic in their writing lessons this week. They have started, stories from other cultures! We have been looking at how we can include cultural references into our writing depending on where our story is set – the focus has been Egypt. In maths, we have also started a new topic – money. So, they have been familiarising themselves with coins, notes and how we convert decimals into money.

Badgers

Badgers have had a great week of learning! They finished their biographies on Sir David Attenborough and have now begun their new unit on playscripts. They have enjoyed performing plays, as well as creating their own playscript on a given scene. In maths, they have finished off their unit on statistics. In history, they learned about the Anglo-Saxons, in order to compare them with the Mayan society and they have been having a very creative time in music, learning about the different music notes and practising these by learning a short piece of music. Well done Badgers!

Foxes

Fox class have produced a lot of brilliant writing this week; re-drafting an explanation text and writing about character, setting and atmosphere. In maths, the class have converted measures and in science have continued to study evolution.
