Dear Families,

We have had a very test-heavy week. Nearly every class in the school has taken tests at some point and should be really pleased with themselves because they showed the key Lingwood values ambition and determination. I was in class with the Year 6 children administering the papers with Mr Dibden and could not believe how much they have grown over the years.

Enjoy a restful weekend and hopefully the weather will turn sunny again soon.

Year group news

Nursery

This week Nursery have been reading ‘I Want to be a Doctor’. They have enjoyed dressing up as doctors and nurses in the role play corner and looking after patients. They have also been finding out about other people who help us like lifeguards and paramedics. In maths they have been subitising 1, 2 and 3, playing games with dots and dice.

Reception Rabbits

Rabbits have had a lovely week continuing their theme of nature and gardens. We have been lucky enough to enjoy time with some of the Y5 children and loved having them help us with our learning and teaching us new games to play.

Hares

It’s been another lovely week in Hares class! Everyone has been working really hard in maths, building up their understanding of unit and non-unit fractions. We are finishing our unit on setting descriptions in English, with children now writing their own piece about what you can see and hear in rainforests. In geography we have begun a new unit on mapping and fieldwork, while in science the focus has moved onto plants we would grow in our own gardens, and how these differ to wild plants.

Fawns

This week Fawns have worked extremely hard completing some of their summer assessments. We have been blown away by the progress made this year! In maths we have been looking at the different methods used for multiplication and division and working on our times tables recall. We also enjoyed our final swimming lesson and have enjoyed practicing all of our new skills.

Otters

This week Otter class have been busy finishing their third person adventure stories. They have edited and finalised them today. From what I have read so far, we have got some aspiring writers! In maths, the children continue learning about decimals on a number line. In science the children learnt about how sound travels to the ear. They investigated vibrations by placing popcorn on a drum and banging it.

Badgers

Badgers have been hard at work beginning their new unit on biographies. They will be creating a biography on Sir David Attenborough in honour of his 100th birthday. In maths, they have been continuing their work on decimals, which will finish next week. DT this week has been focused around making a prototype of their road safety belts, which they will begin making properly next week. Finally, in history, they thoroughly enjoyed exploring why the Mayan civilisation came to an end and discussing their own theories and ideas on the subject. Well done Badgers!

Foxes

This week was dominated by SATs! The children worked incredibly hard every day, were super focused and tried their best even when it was a bit tricky. I don’t think they could have done any more. Year 5 were also great and adapted really well to the classroom changes. Well done all round.
