Dear Families,

It has been really good to be back in school full time as we approach the summer term. We have had some lovely work this week from the children: the Badger’s Greek myths in English, the Hares learning about David Attenborough and all the hard work the Otters have been doing on multiplication to name just a few things. Also, we had reception class have a great afternoon with the multi-skills sports event.

Next week is SATs for the Year 6. They have worked incredibly hard all year and should be proud of how far they have come. Good luck for next week, now is the time to show off what you know!

Year group news

Nursery

This week in Nursery we have continued reading Errol’s Garden. The children have really enjoyed planting their own sunflower seeds and learning about plant life cycles. They have also enjoyed planting carrots and sunflowers in our garden outside and will be watching carefully to see what happens next. In maths we have been counting out 1, 2, 3. The children have pretended to make potions with three ingredients and counted out 1, 2 or 3 pieces of fruit to put on their plate.

Reception Rabbits

Rabbits have had a wonderful week continuing their learning on nature by reading, ‘Mrs Noah’s Garden’ and consolidating how to make the numbers 9 and 10 in maths. During this week we also enjoyed an action filled trip to the Multi Skills event where we all tried our best at different sporting activities!

Hares

In science this week, Hares class got to explore the school grounds as we built our understanding of wild plants and their characteristics. Our book this week is ‘Little People, Big Dreams: David Attenborough’ (perfectly timed for his birthday!); we have been using the book to practice retrieval skills and to make lists of facts linked to a text. In computing, the class have been grouping everyday items, learning how computer systems do similar sorting and categorising.

Fawns

This week in Fawns, we have been very excited to see our sunflowers begin to sprout. In writing, we have been editing our work and thinking about the impact that our vocabulary choices have on the reader. In maths this week we have been focussing on multiplication and division and thinking about the different methods we can use to solve problems.

Otters

This week Otters continued to read Wind in the Willows as part of their core text. They are writing their own fictional narrative about a dramatic event which is resolved at the end of the story – we have jungle animals, volcanoes and demon headteachers! In art, the children made their own wire sculpture inspired by the artist Alberto Giacometti. We come to the end of our unit of time in maths and are about to start decimals.

Badgers

Badgers have thoroughly enjoyed the start of their new core text ‘Secrets of a Sun King’ and they are trying to figure out the mysteries within the story! In English, they have finished their myths and legends, which have been very exciting to read so far. They have continued their work on decimals in maths, learning about how to make whole numbers using decimals and rounding decimal numbers. In geography, they learned about different types of map and when it would be appropriate to use them and in PE, they really showed off their skills in the triple jump and javelin! Well done Badgers!

Foxes

This week Foxes finished their DT unit and attempted to make a 1m tower out of only spaghetti and marshmallows – the highest in the class was 71cm. In English, they finished their autobiography and have begun to write a newspaper article. In science, the class learnt all about micro-organisms and were horrified to find out how many live on our body without us realising.
