Dear Families,

It was lovely to welcome everyone back to school and get started with the term. The new signs look amazing and really show the values that we wand Lingwood to have.

Next week we have the World Book Day on Thursday 5th March 8:30am – 9:00am where families can come in with dressed up children and read their favourite book with a breakfast of pastries and fruit. We hope to see you there!

Year group news

Nursery

This week in Nursery we have been reading The Body Book. We have been looking at different parts of our bodies, why we have them, how they work and learning words like nerves, vibrates and protects. The children have enjoyed using Mr Potato Head to name different features and body parts. In maths we have been making repeating patterns with different objects and using peg boards to help us.

Reception Rabbits

This week we shared the story of The Detective Dog by Julia Donaldson. We thought about what our very own detective dogs would smell and looked at the vocabulary such as astonishing, mislaying and detective. In maths we have looked at 3D shapes and practised recognising these. We have also been busy finding in our classroom and making them using magnets!

Hares

Hares have had a busy first week back and we particularly enjoyed the visit from Sue, when we learnt how to ‘stay safe’. Our new PE topic, ‘sending and receiving’ was great as we learnt how to hone our aiming skills when playing ‘hoop ball’.  Ms Freezer has enjoyed being back with the Hares all week and is looking forward to next week and World Book Day fun!

Fawns

This week Fawns class have had their first swimming lesson. We have been excited all week and have used our experience to support us with our new writing unit: writing recounts. In maths we have finished our unit on fractions. We have also enjoyed a visit from Sue learning all about staying safe in PSHE this week.

Otters

This week Otters have been exploring human biology in science. They looked at the way food travels through parts of the body. In maths, we continue with fractions, looking specifically at comparing and ordering them in size. In art, we started our new topic for textiles: printmaking. The children did some tie dye and will begin learning how to weave.

Badgers

Badgers have had a very exciting week of learning. They have thoroughly enjoyed starting their topic on space in science and it was great to see so many of them with so much knowledge of space already! In geography, they have continued refining their skills on grid references and they got to grips with using Digimaps to help them with this. They were fantastic in PE, improving their passing skills in basketball, as well as showing a lot of enthusiasm for their new English topic around inventions! Well done Badgers!

Foxes

This week Foxes started their new unit in English on writing a fantasy narrative. If you hear them talk about Mother Sundew and Trilla then you now know why. In mathematics they started their unit on perimeter, area and volume. In history they began to learn about the Windrush Generation, which ties in with their reading unit and eventually English work.
