Dear Families,

We had an amazing assembly this week for the Norwich Science Festival – if you can, please do ensure that you visit some of the exhibitions. The theme for the week was our school rule of being ready – it was very enjoyable to see so many awards given to children who are ready to learn at Lingwood.

This week we begun our new system for lunchtime. There have naturally been a few teething problems but on the whole lunch times are much calmer and children have more time to play outside. Thank you for your support whilst we fine-tune things.

Heather Thorne

Interim headteacher

Year group news

Nursery

In Nursery this week we have continued to read ‘The Way Back Home’ and thinking about how the characters felt when they were stuck on the moon. The children have really enjoyed exploring our ‘science lab’ this week and investigating objects with magnifying glasses and magnets. In maths we have been making and comparing groups with different amounts.

Reception Rabbits

In Rabbit Class this week, we have been focusing on the book, ‘Luna Loves Art’.  We have used this to learn about the primary and secondary colours, as well as how to add white and black to make colours lighter and darker.  We have really enjoyed being able to mix colours using paint, special pens and water.

Hares

Hares class loved carrying out their own experiments in science this week, investigating which materials are waterproof and thinking hard about why that is. In maths we have been working on subtraction problems of increasing complexity, now looking at subtracting a two-digit number from another two-digit number. In geography we are continuing our topic of hot and cold countries as we learn about the equator.

Fawns

In Fawns this week we have begun composing our own music based on the style of Stomp. We used objects around the classroom to make different sounds. In maths we have finished our unit on money and have been looking at how to add money and compare different amounts.

Otters

In Otters this week, we celebrated ‘CUSP’s Art Festival’ by creating our own film trailers. The children brainstormed, storyboarded, created minimal props and then filmed their film trailers in groups. We had a premiere at the end of the session! In maths, we have started our new topic in ‘length and perimeter’. Also, we are coming to the end of our core text, ‘Varjak Paw’ in reading.

Badgers

Badgers have started a new unit in English all about stories in third person. They have enjoyed creating character and setting descriptions this week and using expanded noun phrases to add detail. They have persevered with division this week and they are really starting to nail short division! In geography, they learned all about map reading and finding grid references, and in art they have finished their unit on natural art. Well done Badgers!

Foxes

Foxes have been working hard in their new unit in English: they will be writing an explanation text to explain how earthquakes happen. In maths the class have finished their unit on decimals and will now build up to percentages until half term. They enjoyed the science assembly this week too.
