Year group news
Nursery
This week in Nursery we have continued reading The Body Book. In our foundational knowledge we have talked about why it is important to be active, practised skipping and hopping and learnt how to draw faces. We have really enjoyed looking in mirrors to create faces using different materials. In maths we have been subitising. We have listened out for 1, 2 or 3 sounds and shown the number using our fingers or number cards.
Reception Rabbits
This week we have been learning about the Hindu celebration of Holi. We have read the book Celebrations Around the World as well as other books on Holi. We have had lots of fun making rangoli patterns using paint, playdough and loose parts. In maths we have continued our learning on 3D shapes and have used them to make towers and ramps.
Hares
This week we have finished our art topic and made a final piece by creating stencils. Our highlight of the week though was World Book Day and we loved listening to each other’s stories at the end of the day. Year 2 have also had a wonderful time at their swimming lessons.
Fawns
This week in Fawns we have been learning about measures in maths. We have looked at using m, cm and mm for measurement. In reading we have been exploring the story Deep and have enjoyed sequencing the events in the story and looking at how the author portrays the mood of the text. We had lots of fun celebrating World Book Day and it was lovely to learn about everyone’s favourite books.
Otters
This week Otters have been learning about mixed and improper fractions in maths. They can convert improper fractions into mixed numbers. In P.E., the children are doing basketball – with the focus area being dribbling at the moment. During art, we learnt how to weave using paper and magazines! They had a blast on World Book Day being part of BBCs Live Lesson as well as joining in on a zoom call with the author of the Little People, Big Dreams books.
Badgers
Badgers have had another exciting week of learning. They thoroughly enjoyed PE this week with cricket and it is clear that we have some very talented cricketers in the class! In English, they have been busy writing their letters to Mrs Thorne about their inventions and in maths, they have continued to add fractions. In reading, they have finished reading A Midsummer Night’s Dream and next week, they will be moving onto their new core text: I am Not a Label. It was so lovely to see everyone at the World Book Day breakfast yesterday and thank you for making it so special for the children.
Foxes
Fox class have worked very well in mathematics on area, perimeter and volume – they will continue it next week. In English they have started their fantasy narrative and in computing started Internet safety. They looked amazing on World Book Day as well!
