Dear Families,

As we come to the end of half-term, I have seen many improvements and things to be positive about in school. Well done to Lingwood for their amazing work in the Times Table Rock Stars competition last week. Lunches continue to be much more settled and classes continue to work hard.

FOLPA are kindly hosting a World Book Day Breakfast on Thursday 5th March 8:30am – 9:00am where families can come in with dressed up children and read their favourite book with a breakfast of pastries and fruit. We hope to see you there!

Fawn class will now begin their swimming sessions so Otter class will have their P.E. lessons on a Tuesday afternoon.

Year group news

Nursery

In Nursery this week we have continued to read Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children have enjoyed thinking and talking about what Goldilocks should have done and spotting our new vocabulary in the story. Our foundational knowledge has been looking at maps and the children have done a great job this week of drawing their own, including treasure maps and maps of our classroom. In maths we have been matching shapes in pictures and puzzles and looking at routes from stories we know.

Reception Rabbits

In Rabbit class this week we have started to learn about 2-D shapes.  We have been identifying their properties and searching for them in our environment.  The highlight of our week however has been trying different Chinese food as part of our learning about Chinese New Year and our story, ‘The Great Race’.

Hares

In Hares class this week children got to finish their special letters to members of their families, telling the person what they love about them and asking the special person a question (working hard on our punctuation and grammar as we did so). Today’s art lesson started a new topic on printmaking, using everyday objects and the primary colours to make prints on different types of paper.

Fawns

What a fabulous last week of the half term we have had in Fawns. We have enjoyed a glow in the dark PE lesson and have also been learning about Children’s Mental Health week by thinking about what it means to belong. In writing this week we have been using our imaginations to write adventure stories and in maths we have continued to learn about fractions.

Otters

This week, Year 3 and 4 have been completing their D.T. project and constructed a lid for their box they made last week. They used a material hinge to attach the lid to make it a working box and lid. It was their final swim lesson on Friday – the children have worked so hard in these sessions and have built up so much confidence in the water. Finally, they finished their ‘stories from other cultures’ piece of writing – we have fantastic, imaginative writers in the class! Have a well-deserved, rested half term, Otters.

Badgers

This week, Badgers have finished their stories from another culture and there have been some fantastic writers throughout the week. They have been very sad to finish their core text (The Boy in the Tower), as they have thoroughly enjoyed the story and the constant cliff hangers! In history, they have been learning about what life was like in a Mayan village. In computing, they have been continuing their lessons around internet safety this week and have been great at spotting phishing scams! Have a lovely half term everyone!

Foxes

Fox class have finished their explanatory text on how a mountain forms in English. In maths they have worked very hard on calculating percentages too. They enjoyed their work in computing where they edited their movies and in geography where they finished their unit on settlements and land use. A huge well done as well for their work in the TTRS competition as well – they finished 33rd in the whole country!
