Dear Families,

It is wonderful to see so many children receiving their silver badges this week. They really are role models to the school upholding the values that we have. On the subject of values, our focus this week has been determination: from being in classrooms I saw lots of this from children working. As well as that, we had Mark from Harrier Judo Club come to school to show the children some basic skills.

Next week teachers will be meeting with some parents regarding learning support plans. You should have received an email earlier in the week regarding this if it involves your child. Please do arrange a meeting with them.

Interim headteacher

Year group news

Nursery

This week in Nursery we have been reading the book ‘The Way Back Home’. We have been talking about how it feels to be alone and imagining what it might be like to land on the moon. Our foundational knowledge has been to learn how to use scissors and practise our cutting skills. The children have really persevered with this and have all learnt how to cut straight, wavy and zig zag lines. In maths we have been subitising to 3 and noticing when there are 1, 2, or 3 dots.

Reception Rabbits

This week Rabbits have been learning about explorers.  We have written lists of what we would take if we went exploring, used playdough to create landmarks from around the world and taken the opportunity to learn about different countries!

Hares

This week in Hares class we had a great DT lesson where children got to make their own crudites and tzatziki. In English children have finished writing their recount of what they did on Christmas day, making sure they included words like ‘first’, ‘next’ and ‘finally’ to explain the events in a clear order. In computing we talked about safe use of devices when children get screentime at home, and the importance of talking to a trusted adult if they see something by accident that scares them.

Fawns

This week in Fawns, we began our new unit in geography by exploring the different landmarks in London and making comparisons between London and our local area. In maths we have begun our unit on money and have been thinking about different coins and amounts. In addition to this, Year 2 this week have been working hard on their maths and reading checks and Year 3 have been focussed on their use of column method.

Otters

This week in Otters, we began our topic on stories from different cultures. We explored expanded noun phrases and how to create an atmospheric scene. In maths, we learnt how to divide using a 3-digit number. Finally, in D.T. we continued our project of hinges, where we started to plan to make our boxes.

Badgers

Badgers have been doing some fantastic learning this week. They have finished their biographies about Mae Jemison and they have gone above and beyond to add in the techniques taught for this unit. They have now started division in maths and using their times table knowledge to help their grouping and sharing. They have thoroughly enjoyed learning about water resistance in science, as well as learning about art within different religions in RE. Well done Badgers!

Foxes

This week Fox class finished their disaster narrative and began to edit it. In maths, they added and subtracted decimal numbers – they will be finding percentages soon! In science, the class created light mazes and periscopes to show how light reflects. The class also really enjoyed their judo session.
