Dear Parents and Carers

It has been absolutely wonderful to see the fantastic focus and learning taking place in our Nursery and EYFS classes this week. The children are making exciting progress in developing their early reading skills, and it’s a joy to watch their confidence grow.

We are also looking forward to strengthening communication through Class DoJo. Mr Dibden, Interim Deputy Headteacher will be sharing more information about how this will help us stay connected and celebrate achievements together.

As we fast approach December, the excitement is building! The Christmas tree is being put up in school today, and we can’t wait to see the festive spirit spread throughout our community.

Finally, if you have any Christmas jumpers that you no longer need, we would greatly appreciate your donations. A collection box is available in the school reception area. Thank you so much for your generosity—it really makes a difference.

Warmest wishes

Mrs J Sendall

Interim Headteacher

Year group news

Nursery

This week in Nursery, we have been looking at the Nativity story. The children have thought about main events of the story and talked about how we might travel to Bethlehem and how it looks different now from the story. In maths we have been learning to recognise the numbers 1, 2 and 3 and playing lots of games to help us with this.

Reception Rabbits

This week we have been enjoying another traditional tale, ‘The Gingerbread Man’. We have been learning and retelling the story, then had fun making our very own gingerbread men! We have talked about how we can keep safe whilst helping in the kitchen and the dangers to look out for.

Hares

Hares have had a very creative week, finishing their art topic by painting a piece in the style of Mondrian.  We have also finished writing our very own stories, set right here in Lingwood Primary!  Keep learning the lyrics to our Nativity songs and also your lines if you have a speaking role.

Fawns

Fawns have had another really positive week this week. In writing we have been focusing on the problems and resolutions in stories and planning some of our own. In maths we have been looking at the properties of 3D shapes. The Year 2 attended the Year 2 multi skills event this week and were excellent role models of The Lingwood way, while the Year 3 children had the opportunity to apply their learning from PSHE and Science by leading some games for our Reception children. Well done for all of your hard work this week, you have made us all very proud!

Otters

Otters have been learning about states of matter and are currently measuring the time it will take for water to evaporate from different containers in class to see if the surface area of the jugs will affect the rate of evaporation!

Badgers

Badgers have been hard at work this week. They have enjoyed their first art lesson around printing and created the first layer of their prints! In history, they have been studying the origins of Greek theatre and the masks the actors wore. We have started our new unit in English, all about stories from Ancient Greece and they have been creating some beautiful setting displays. We have also started learning our Christmas songs for our upcoming performance and they have been very enthusiastic!

Foxes

This week, Fox class finished their unit on Cubism and created a mixed-media collage of still life. In English, they have started their explanation text of the circulatory system. In science, the class did an experiment to see whether exercise raises our heartbeat – it does!
