Dear Parents and Carers

It has been such a lovely week in school with some really good learning taking place.

The food from Otter class smelt amazing, so many from Badgers class tried their hardest in swimming and Rabbits loved Each Peach Pear Plum to name just a few things around the school. Choir club has also started, providing another enrichment opportunity for children in our school.

I think we can all agree that the weather has fully turned this week with some snow as well. Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct clothing for the weather.

Warm wishes

Mrs J Sendall

Interim Headteacher

Year group news

Nursery

This week in Nursery we have continued looking at nursery rhymes and have been learning Miss Polly had a Dolly and Five Currant Buns. The children have enjoyed our doctors role play area and have been busy making playdough currant buns all week. In maths we have been using our fingers to show 1, 2 and 3 and looking for these amounts in stories and songs.

Reception Rabbits

This week we have shared the story Each Peach Pear Plum. We have enjoyed spotting all the nursery rhyme characters on each page and the many rhyming words. In maths we have looked at parts of a number and used cubes and double-sided counters to help us explore and learn. Our poem this week was very aptly called ‘Breezy Weather’ and we had LOTS of fun playing with the ice formed in the outside water trays. We found the best way to smash the ice was to ride over it with the bikes and scooters.

Hares

This week has been extremely busy.  We have started to write our own stories, began rehearsals for our Nativity and even went and had a quick, cheeky play in the snow!  We look forward to continuing with all of these next week and more.

Fawns

This week in writing, Fawns class have been working hard to write expanded noun phrases for their chosen story setting. They have thought carefully about their choice of adjectives. In maths they have been working hard on shape and showed particular focus and determination in our lesson on drawing symmetrical shapes. They have also really enjoyed exploring the Nativity in more detail and making comparisons to the modern day in our RE lesson.

Otters

Otter class made their own bread and soup in their DT lesson this week when thinking about the question: What is in our food? We looked at the ingredients for bread and soup and compared it to the ingredients we used to make our own. The bread rolls were a hit and everyone loved them. The soup split the class – some loved it and others not so much – but we all agreed it is better to make fresh food and know exactly what is in the food we eat! We also learnt about the effects of chopping (or grating) onions!

Badgers

Badgers have started a poetry unit this week and the class have been writing some truly beautiful cinquains and haikus! Their creativity has really shone and they should be very proud of themselves. In maths, we have been studying factors and prime numbers with some fun (and challenging) investigations. The class have shown some outstanding swimming for the last two weeks and they should be incredibly proud of how they have represented Lingwood at the swimming pool.

Foxes

This week Foxes finished their newspaper article and edited it. In mathematics, they started a new unit on fractions which they will be studying for several weeks! In history, the class learned all about the Battle of Britain. They have worked hard all week and should be very proud of their efforts.
