History lessons will offer challenge to all in line with the schools Learning Without Limits ethos and will be taught as part of topic lessons. Each topic will last for a term. Teachers will mainly use whole class teaching combined with enquiry based research activities. Where ever possible, we involve the children in ‘real’ historical activities e.g. dress up days or use of historical artefacts to investigate a person, time or place. Teachers are encouraged to ‘launch’ topics in a way that will spark children’s curiosity. There is also opportunity with each topic for parents to celebrate children’s learning with them.
History
Our approach to learning History is closely linked to the Primary National Curriculum 2014. Pupils will gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. We inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past and equip them to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. History at Lingwood Primary School helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.
