Geography

Geography will be taught as part of children’s topic lessons. Each topic will last for a whole term. Where ever possible, we involve the children in ‘real’ geographical activities e.g. research of a local environmental problem or use of the internet to investigate a current issue. Teachers are encouraged to ‘launch’ topics in a way that will spark children’s curiosity. There is also opportunity with each topic for parents to celebrate children’s learning with them.

Our approach to learning Geography is closely linked to the Primary National Curriculum 2014 and enables learning that inspires in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. Children gain a knowledge and understanding about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments including a respect for other cultures and interest in environmental issues, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. At every stage, children develop map interpreting skills and analyse statistics.
