Welcome to Year One – Herons
Year 1 children are taught by Mrs Davis and Mrs Campbell.
Year One are known as the Heron class.
We love to learn and we try our best in a range of learning situations. We are encouraged to have a go and recognise that we learn from our mistakes.
Throughout the morning we do Phonics, English, VIPERS and Maths and a 15 minute playtime.
Children are encouraged to work with increasing independence using resources to support and extend their learning. Pupils are encouraged to work with their parents at home on specified activities to enhance their learning. We also like children to read regularly to their parents at home, practise their spellings at home during the week.
P.E. is on Wednesday with Mr Clark our PE coach. On Fridays the children participate in an hour of Karate with a qualified instructor. PE Kit should be in school all week in case there are timetable changes or inclement weather.
We welcome parent helpers in school. Please let the school know if you would like to help and we will arrange a DBS check before you start.
Our topic for this term is ‘Dream Jobs’. Year 1 have already had many visitors/parents within the school community in talking about their jobs ranging from: mechanics, doctors and midwives. This helped to inspire the children and create excitement in the first few weeks of the Autumn Term.
