Lingwood Mathematicians @ UEA – 14th June 2018
Foour Year 6 mathematicians took part in the Year 6 Inter-Schools Maths Quiz at the UEA. They took part in various tricky Maths rounds competing against a number of other schools and were delighted to get through to the Grand Final where they came 3rd out of 25! Well done! They also had a tour of the UEA campus and got to see what it was like to go to university. A great day was had by all!
Spring Term 2 – Science
In Science this term Albatross Class have been learning about Electricity and have investigated the brightness of a lamp with the number of cells used in the circuit. They also had a design brief to create an image which had a light up element to it. As you can see there was a wide range of designs!
Spring Term 2 – Algebra in Maths
Albatross Class have investigated patterns in Maths and have learnt how algebraic formulae can be used to represent patterns and sequences of numbers.
Spring Term 2 – Nets in Maths
On the last day of term Albatross Class had the design brief to create a net to make a 3D container for some Easter chocolate rabbits. As you can see they all did a great job with various nets designed (and won a chocolate treat as a result!)
Spring Term 2 – Art
Year 6 enjoyed recreating the image ‘Tiger in a Tropical Storm’ by Henri Rousseau and displaying them at the Art Exhibition in school. They used the medium of oil pastels to do so.
Spring Term – Co-ordinates in Maths
Spring Term – Science Investigation
For their Science Unit on Evolution and Inheritance the Year 6’s carried out an investigation on Adaptation and Natural Selection. They were investigating the Theory by Charles Darwin about how Finches evolved on the Galapagos Islands. In order to do this they had a range of different food types (representing different sized seeds) and several different implements such as tweezers, chopsticks and teaspoons (to represent the different sized beaks). Lots of fun was had by all, especially trying to pick up marbles with chopsticks!
Christmas Carol Concert
For our Christmas Carol Concert the Year 6 pupils gave readings explaining the Christmas story and the birth of Jesus Christ. Well done Year 6 for their excellent deliveries of these readings!
Sewing for the 2017 Christmas Fair
For our Christmas Craft Fair the Year 6 pupils decided to continue with their sewing skills from when they went on their transition day to Acle Academy. They persevered (despite numerous threads falling out from needles!) and learnt lots of new sewing skills they didn’t realise they had! As a result they created lots of fantastic felt emoji tree decorations to sell and made a great profit for their class!
Acle Academy Year 6 Design and Technology Transition Day
The Year 6’s spent a Transition Design and Technology Day at Acle Academy where they took part in a range of different workshops (Textiles, Graphic Products, Computer Design, Art and Product Design). All of the sessions focused on a theme of ’emojis’ and were based on practical skills including designing and making their own Emoji badges and Felt Decoration. We all enjoyed ourselves and had a fantastic day!
