Spring Term Second Half Learning 2018
This half term, Herons have been exploring stories from the same author (Jez Alborough) then creating our own stories. We created story settings using collage then added descriptive words using the thesaurus to find other synonyms.
Welcome to Year One – The Herons
Year One are known as the Heron class and Ms Clements is their teacher.
We love to learn and we try our best in a range of learning situations. We are encouraged to have a go and recognise that we learn from our mistakes.
Each morning we work in Phonics, English and Maths with a five minute break for some Brain gym and a 15 minute playtime.
Children are encouraged to work with increasing independence using resources to support and extend their learning.
Our topics for the year are Get Out of my Swamp, Toys and Going to the seaside. Pupils are encouraged to work with their parents at home on specified activities to enhance their learning. We also like children to read regularly to their parents at home, practise their spellings and to use Maths Whizz at home during the week.
Year 1 children will have a Phonic Screening Check during the week commencing 12th June 2017. The class teacher will carry out this screening on a 1:1 basis. Don’t worry; it is a ‘child friendly’ paper! We will have a meeting to explain it to you. You will be informed of your child’s results as part of their end-of-year report.
P.E. is on Wednesday and Friday. Kit should be in school all week in case there are timetable changes or inclement weather.
We welcome parent helpers in school. Please let the school know if you would like to help and we will arrange a DBS check before you start.
